Can anyone recommend an island and hotel in the Canary Islands for the half term break in february?. My children will be 4 and 7. I would like to be on the beach and have a suite / interconnecting rooms. Thanks

Would you definitely rule out villa?

LG · 27/09/2007 18:34

yes I think I would like a hotel for a break from chores!

Budget? I have recommended it before but Princesa Yaiza in Lanzarote is pretty good. Near beach and restaurants, spacious rooms and suites.

I would like a nice hotel so I'm fairly flexible on budget.

We went to Sheraton La Caleta last Feb half term and had a great time. It's on the sea front but the beach is a few minutes walk along. One pool was heated therefore warmer than when we went there the previous May. It's in Tenerife.

that sounds very nice!

Would agree with the Princess Yaiza in Lanzarote, it's fab but expensive and in a great location.

Hotel Costa Canaria in San Augustin, Gran Canaria. It is small with a pool, tennis court and small spa (great massage). Gardens gorgeous and private and gated onto the beach, food wonderful. Entertainment at night is spectacularly awful (we found it unmissable) - Eurobeat disco and dancing to the Macarena . Lots of Spanish families from the mainland with their children who stay up late and dine with them (which we really liked) and lots of Germans who were friendly and civilised (plenty of sunbeds for everyone). If you like hooking up with other British families then this is probably not the hotel for you as there were very few Brits. I really recommend it and intend to go back sometime soon.

Abama on Tenerife is utterly luxurious and I thoroughly recommend it. Not close to any 'real life' but there is so much there and it is so gorgeous you probably won't mind.
