Ideas please for keeping 6 year old girls amused on a flight

Not a particularly long flight - only Italy, but with two rather excited, lively 6 year old DDs.

I planned to give them a little rucksack with a few bits in like a comic or some pens. Any other ideas?

My DS enjoyed an activity book with word searches, colouring etc. You can probably get a Disney Princess one or whatever they are into ATM. We also let them choose a new packet of Top Trumps each at the airport.

also an iPod or walkman? or a tamogotchi (but get one where the sound can be turned off for your own sanity)

Remember if you give them felt tip pens they have to go in the sacred clear plastic bag. We used to use playdough (even at 6 - they get much more creative at this age!) but of course it can't go on board now..... Wikki stix maybe? Travel line up four? There is a fab activitiy book called Doggie doodles that kept my 6yo occupied for nearly four hours once......

Thanks, some nice ideas here. Didn't realise play dough wasn't allowed now, and what do you mean about plastic bag for pens??

Haven't flown for over 3 years, can you tell .

MY DC both took felt tips on board with no trouble and in fact were both very well behaved on the plane. DS who is 6 had a new comic, a book, a CD walkman, activity book, A5 pad of plain paper, pencil case with things in, new Liverpool top trumps.

My ds years ago took a game boy! We have also used the magnetic type books with characters, yes and top trumps like mimizan.

Felt tip pens (and play dough) are considered to be gels/liquids - put them in your clear plastic bag for inspection and the'll be fine. So long as none are over the BAA size limits. We did see kids with felt tips having their bags emptied out on a trip to Oz, so best to put them in the plastic bag I think.
