Went on Monday with my 20 month old..
It has everything! Under 3's are free and 14 quid for adults seems pricey, but it is well worth it..
Would definitely recommend it.

Oooh, DS would be well up for snake and reptile handling. We stroked rats at Bristol Zoo recently. He helled a Madagascan Hissing Cockroach (effing enormous - I drew the line at that one!)

PeachesMcLean · 25/09/2007 22:52

Helled??

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:57

i find reptiles really fascinating...but a giant bleeding cockroach...sod that.

Butterflies make me duck if they get too close - there's nothing cute about anything with flappy, flappy wings!

I took a class of kids to Bristol Zoo while I was teaching but unfortunately, I had to have a terrified 5yo on my lap while they handed round the cockroaches. It was such a shame .

You didn't have a guy called Andy doing the handling bit, did you? Looks like an uglier Nick Knowles with glasses .

PeachesMcLean · 25/09/2007 23:04

No, the bloke doing the showing was much older and tbh a bit useless, but DS thought it was all great anyway. He couldn't quite understand why I didn't want to hold it too, so I sat there trying to look cool like I was letting him have all the Cockroach Holding Time. Aren't I virtuous???

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 23:04

why would some one want to make kids hold cockroaches!??
is it a new way to make kids think they are nice or something.. why doesnt he get them to hold wasps too..they are probably friendly too..

...and this is not a debate before all the wasp friendly people get on and tell me off....i was only saying...

tumble, they're not like normal cockroaches cos they're about 100 times bigger . They also make a hissing noise if you poke them! All the school parties I took loved them, bar the odd one or two girls.

And me, obviously.

Lol at Peaches looking cool about the cockroach. I think I probably got away with looking cool about the whole bat cave with my cardy on my head, hiding behind my pushchair. I don't think anyone noticed I wasn't too keen on being in there!

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 23:10

would you go into a cave of hissing huge cockcroaches? they don't flap i presume...or do they?...

OP posts:
Olihan · 25/09/2007 23:12

Nah, they don't flap, but they'd run over you feet and maybe up your trouser legs...............

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 23:14

ew...dont like the sound of that...
dont suppose they eat people though...not like killer people eating bats that you get at chester zoo...

Hahahaha .

And on that note I really do have to go to bed.

Sweet nightmares dreams!

Night!

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 23:17

Weird isn't it. I've no concerns at all about flappy creatures whizzing past in the dark. They were fab. However, small insignificant creatures such as cockroaches and slugs, for instance.... eeeeuuuuggghhhhh!!!!

Which is mad, cos, hardly likely to jump up to your neck and suck your blood out, are they? Just think it's funny what we have fears about. And I still wouldn't to hold a cockroach..

ClaireVerityIsAWitch · 26/09/2007 18:31

We have a bat in our landing - it roosts on the smoke alarm. A gre long eared bat. I'll try and put a pic in my profile

tumble4 · 26/09/2007 20:54

i really do love bats! i suppose there are a lot of things that people hate that other people think are cool....i could never understand why my nan could never look at pictures of tigers! weird! or how my mates mom used to shake when she saw a frog!

ants....i can watch them from a distance at the zoo....but i dont want them near me! i dont freak out or anything but you see one...and you just know all its tattooed, knife weilding thug ant mates are waiting around the corner...and not just a couple..a million! yuck!
