Travel to Portugal

We had been hoping that Portugal would be on the list for an air bridge but it isn't looking likely now due to a recent spike. But does anyone know when the FCO advice on non-essential travel will be reviewed? We would be happy to go still as we are WFH so happy to quarantine but our insurance won't be valid unless the advice is changed from the FCO.

We are due to fly on 16/07. Literally don’t know what is going on and I’m not trusting the media at all. They are announcing the air bridges by Monday it seems, possibly over the weekend. When are you due to go?

Even if Portugal is missed off for July (I’m hoping this is the case as I don’t really want to go now) then it still may change for August.

I completely understand your trepidation given the current FCO advice. Shock

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 26/06/2020 15:52

I would assume that if they're announcing air bridges/travel corridors on Monday, that they'd have to therefore amend the FCO advisory??

usernotfound0000 · 26/06/2020 16:15

We're due to go on 20th July. We are happy to go as we are staying self catering in a villa so we would have been fairly isolated anyway. Just obviously don't want to go if we wouldn't be insured. Portugal officials are still saying they hope an agreements will be reached.

We are in the same boat.
Due to fly 18/7 and staying in a villa
Though won't be insured if FCO day no go, I fear the travel company will say we have to go or lose our money.

I am happier to postpone and re book for next year.

RigaBalsam · 03/07/2020 17:46

Same situation. It's definitely on the bad list.

Mitzdob · 03/07/2020 17:58

Same, meant to be going 11/8. Tried to re book but everything is really expensive and just can't put any more money to it. Think we'll just lose the money for flights.

usernotfound0000 · 03/07/2020 18:19

Well we're hoping that it may be added to the list in the next week but I really don't want to be waiting until a few days before and still not know if we can go! I think we'll explore the option of moving it to next year.

How does any of this make sense? The government really have no clue. Spain has higher cases than Portugal and yet we are expected to quarantine for 14 days in Covid infested England?

Mitzdob · 03/07/2020 19:15

I read on line that Portugal will be added, but not sure how true that is?
It's bonkers. No wonder the flights were so cheap ! 😂

Ratrace123 · 03/07/2020 19:58

We sadly cancelled our Portugal holiday. The impact on insurance is an issue and it feels too risky for us. Especially if the situation changes when we’re out there. 😔

I feel so bad for Portugal - they’ve handled the pandemic so well and the selfish organisers / attendees of the 2 parties earlier in June have really ruined a lot of livelihoods.

Ratrace123 · 03/07/2020 19:59

We were meant to be flying out next Sat 11th...our outgoing flight was operational but the return flight was cancelled. Imagine if this was cancelled when we were out there.

usernotfound0000 · 03/07/2020 20:14

It doesn't make sense at all and I really feel for Portugal. I hope that the people in charge can convince the UK government. We are flying with Ryanair who aren't cancelling the flight, they have said they will fly regardless. We have 17 days for a U-turn!

OP posts:
Ratrace123 · 03/07/2020 20:23

Good luck. It may well change by the time you go - we had to make a decision or pay for the accommodation. As it stands we haven’t lost anything and have Easy Jet vouchers valid for a year. Feel so gutted as I think Portugal is technically safer than Spain and Italy.

loopsngeorge · 03/07/2020 21:07

We are meant to be flying on the 30th of July, also on Ryanair. If the Fco advise against travel are Ryanair still allowed to operate the flight given that everyone's insurance is invalid?

usernotfound0000 · 03/07/2020 21:24

@loopsngeorge apparently so, we haven't looked into it properly but I read an article where it quoted O'Leary saying they would operate regardless. And flights have been going to other destinations this week when the advice is in place still so I think it is allowed.

Ratrace123 · 03/07/2020 22:10

This article might explain why Portugal left off. We Brits would get tested more over there than at home! Because Portugal takes test & trace seriously, putting BoJo’s clown car to shame.

PicklePig31 · 09/07/2020 11:02

@usernotfound0000 have you been cancelled? We are flying with Jet2 and have had nothing yet and supposed to be flying next week? Getting very anxious.

Portugal is not on their list of destinations for the summer though?!

usernotfound0000 · 09/07/2020 11:07

@PicklePig31No, our flight is still scheduled. We are waiting to hear from the villa company as to whether they will move us to next year or refund. I am keeping an eye on the Ryanair flights to Faro and they have cancelled up to today but ones scheduled from tomorrow onwards are still on. I have heard that Jet2 have been one of the better airlines so I would think they will move or refund you if you get in touch.

OP posts:
PicklePig31 · 09/07/2020 11:56

@usernotfound0000 I’ve tried to call them but cannot get through. It just says online they are contacting customers by travel date so I’m assuming we may hear something early next week.

Ryanair have been a nightmare. We were booked to go away in April and I’ve received no refund yet.

JudgeRindersMinder · 09/07/2020 11:59

We were due to go to Portugal on 17/07 and with a heavy heart cancelled our villa yesterday. We’re in Scotland so even in Westminster our Portugal on the list, Sturgeon will wait another week to do it here -just because she can🙄

PicklePig31 · 09/07/2020 13:35

Just checked my email. They’ve cancelled it and will refund everything within the next 28 days. Can not fault jet2 at all over this whole period, they’ve done the best they can in very difficult circumstances.
