Greece in July at 15 weeks pregnant?

So I have made a huge muck up of my holiday booking.
Due to fly to Greece with Jet2Holidays on July 20th (typical, 5 days earlier and it would have been cancelled!) And now fully paid. Our first ever abroad family holiday.
I did the whole wait and see for a while as it looked likely to be cancelled anyway and presumed it would be easy to just change to next year once I had decided to. However it appears not now. I have had no reply to my email and no phone calls taken understandably. There is also the likelihood that to change to next year now would cost a lot more when the holiday cost was the top of our budget to get a good experience (though can save more over the year to off set the cost)
I am now pregnant too (kind of figured it wouldn't matter as likely to be cancelled) and would be 15 weeks by the time we go.
I'm in a real quandary on what to do.

  • Do we keep trying to contact and move the holiday to next summer (not an issue re. Baby, happy to take or leave with grandparents if need be)?
  • Do we wait and see if Greece continues to have no entry for Brits as I think they will which cancels and we get a refund?
  • Do we go on holiday if it is still on? I have to admit, I would quite like to still go if things are deemed safe. We are all low risk (hubby working in retail, been working throughout with no issue). I just will be disappointed if our experience is affected and we dont get what we paid for e.g. pool use, AI dining, entertainment etc. Or the Greeks see us Brits as diseased with our high rates!! Then also, if we go, do we need to inform insurance of me being pregnant? I just got the one with the holiday package.
So tricky and wish they would just cancel the holidays now. It surely cannot go ahead?!

Argh it's so difficult. If the FCO changes it's advice then you could go? It would probably be easier to go this year rather than with a baby next year in my opinion. I have three kids and we are meant to be flying to Cyprus on the same date as you are. It'll be our first ever holiday abroad with the kids as I couldn't face it when they were small. Good luck with whatever you decide!

This is what I thought too and was our 1st holiday abroad too. However... Jet2holidays cancelled our holiday last week. I think the hotel themselves cancelled as I couldn't even rebook the same hotel for next year. As I spent a long time researching hols I particularly wanted this resort with facilities. I am pleased the decision was taken out of my hands and I get a full refund soon.
I hope your holiday still goes ahead. I would have been fine to still go tbh if they had deemed it safe to fly and provide the standard of holiday I had booked. The person I spoke to from Jet2 was really helpful in reassuring me that they would only let us travel if they could provide the holiday I had booked. I actually now think there will still be more holidays still cancelled for this reason even with recent news on travel to diff countries.

Yes I think you're right. The news from Greece is not encouraging and I'm not taking my kids somewhere and risking quarantine or being sent home so it's looking like we'll try to rebook for next year. Good luck with your holiday search and with your pregnancy!
