Easyjet voucher offer

taichiFlipper · 12/06/2020 09:36

Just had an email from Easyjet saying my flight on 10 July is not cancelled yet, but they will now offer me a voucher which has to be used in the next 12 months. (At this stage, I do just want the refund and hope my flight is eventually cancelled tbh.)

They say I have to take them up on this offer by 23 June. I replied asking what would happen if I didn't take them up on it by this date, and I got an autonote right back saying they are experiencing high volumes of emails (of course) and may not respond for 15 days... taking us past their deadline of 23 June!

Does anyone know what my rights are in this situation –and what will actually happen if I do nothing by 23/6? I suspect nothing...

Thanks for any advice!!

I'd suggest hopping over to MSE and checking there. They probably have the best boards for advice on these things that is as accurate as it can be. With the greatest of respect to everyone here, none of us are experts and if you are looking at money issues you'd be best getting it from an expert!

If you don't take the voucher and the flight goes ahead then you loose your money if you don't use it. If the flight is cancelled you get a refund (assuming it is a normal non refundable ticket to start with). They are restarting routes so it's a gamble

What I want to know is if I have to book within 12 months or travel within 12 months because I would want to use the voucher in July 2021. Again can't get a response from them in time

I've got this situation with AirAsia £1.1k of flights booked in August but UK travellers can't enter until 31 August so can't use. AirAsia Travel Insurance won't work as its got pandemic exclusion.

From what I can see flight goes ahead you lose money, chargeback would fail, only option is will your insurance cover. Ours should in theory cover last flight but not the others so £240 minus their excess. If its cancelled then as your flight is in Europe you have right to a cash refund, as mine is outside Europe I don't have that right but chargeback then is likely to win. Our insurance won't pay out if offered a credit note though I wouldn't accept one I couldn't use. Hard thing is if your 90% sure won't use it insurance only tells results of claims for us 30 days after holiday. I found a good guide on UK Finance website.

For AirAsia it's you book within 12 months, can use for advertised but people reporting issues and that they are not allowing credit to be used for purchases, credit frozen, 6 months and still not through etc.

EVAAir on the other hand I have a full refund already, came through in 5 days. Will be careful who I fly with next time.
