BA booked as a package

I booked a BA flight/hotel/car package for the end of July (to the USA). BA got in touch a couple of weeks ago to offer us a travel voucher for the future which we were happy to accept.
However, they have been in touch today to say that the hotel was non-refundable and we won't be getting any voucher to carry forward.
I have looked on the hotel chain's website and they're currently offering free cancellation on bookings until 30th June and for all future bookings. The government advice is no non-essential travel and the orange-oaf has said that America is 'closed' to tourists from Europe.
I paid the deposit on my credit card and have annual travel insurance.
In addition, it is not clear on the BA website that the hotel is non-refundable (it still isn't for future bookings) and it is only evident on the documents received once the deposit was paid.
Where do I start to get my money back??? BA/credit card/insurance???? My head is spinning with it all. We can't afford to lose the £500 but can't go on our holiday either.

If you booked all 3 parts of the holiday together at the same time with them then this is a package holiday and not your problem if the hotel is non refundable. I am assuming you were issued with an ATOL certificate at the time of booking which they are legally obliged to provide with packages.
However, you need to wait until THEY cancel your holiday to be entitled to a refund. If by some small chance the holiday does proceed then it would be classed as “Disinclination to travel” by yourselves should you choose not to go and you are not entitled to a refund in this instance. ( This is the reason they are saying the hotel is non ref, assuming You will be cancelling rather than them.)
You need to sit tight and wait for B.A. Holidays to cancel, OP.

Thank you. They've been back in touch today to say we don't have to pay any more until 3 weeks before we travel and if, at that point, the government advice is still not to travel to the USA, we will get our money back. I've marked it on my calendar to deal with it then

I booked a package with BA they wouldn't do anything until the flights were confirmed cancelled. When they were they paid me back in full

I had exactly the same as atilathehut,
As soon as both flights were cancelled on my BA package they refunded the full amount (flights and hotel) back onto my card within about 8 days.
I didn’t need to contact them at all, simply received an email saying they couldn’t fulfill the itinerary booked so will refund in full.
