What to do about Greece, August?

Our holiday is booked to Greece in first week of Aug.

We'd been holding off paying the full amount until we had to, to see what the situation would be.

The date we need to pay in full is 1st July. Greece are due to announce what other countries will be on the permitted list on 1st July.

No idea where that leaves us. If UK are on the list on 1st, it means literally no time to find out what the restrictions at our resort will be. If on the 1st UK aren't on the list, it's unlikely we'll be notified that day that our hol is cancelled - but really don't want to pay 8k with all the subsequent hassle of trying to get it back. And our deposit was quite large too, to just walk away from.

WWYD?

I think I'd pay, Greece has had a total death rate of 175, I'd feel safer there than here. If they cancel you will get your money back, albeit with a delay.

@Sussed I also have a holiday to Greece booked for early August. Same situation with deposit paid and holding off to pay the full amount. I really want to go. My children want to go. Obviously right now it is closed doors to England. As you say 1st of July may change that. Then there is the next hurdle... Quarantine. If that is still in place it takes us right up to the day the children go back to school.... I’d pay the deposit though and hope to go.

I think it's also worth bearing in mind what the restrictions or requirements might be on arrival in Greece. Today it was announced that arrivals from the UK would have to be tested and isolate for 7 days if negative or 14 days if positive. Unsure if this will apply to flights in August but if it does it might not be the holidays people had planned.
