January escape with (as opposed to from!) a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old: any recommendations?

Sun, optional kids club for dd1, feeling safe and peaceful, and reasonable food...any ideas?

People are recommending Barbados or St Lucia, what do you think?

Not looking for adventure, this time, just some relaxation and a bit of pampering...[Elibean wanders off in dream}

been to St Lucia twice at that time of the year ( just for a day each time mind you) and it rained both times we were there so don't have a very good impression of it weather wise.
Barbados is lovely -nice beaches, plenty of nice restaurants and entertainment for kids and grown ups.

That kind of flights sounds like a nightmare with two small children - we went to Playa Blanca on Lanzarote in January a few years ago - the weather was very nice, sunny and around 23C.

Thanks! Geekgirl, I feel the same about the flights - but we went to Lanzarote in late Jan a few years ago and froze. Still, rain doesn't sound all that much better...unless its tropical and warm and the sort you can enjoy...

Currently thinking we're unlikely to get enough of a break in viral onslaughts to get on a plane anyway

But not giving up yet...

Go to Grenada. It's a lovely island about 8 hours away and totally relaxing. If you stay at the Rex there is a kids club which does sessions both mornings and afternoons and the food is great. Adil the chef will rustle up dishes for your children too, if they don't fancy anything on offer on the buffet too.

Also, if you stay at the Rex, the transfer is literally 2 minutes (so no nasty minibus journey to endure at either end of your holiday) and with the bonus of no aircraft noise. It is the dry season in January so it won't be sticky and uncomfortable either. We liked it so much there we went twice last year!

Have also been to St Lucia, which is great, but the transfer by minibus is a nightmare because it's about an hour and a half on not very good road winding through the banana plantattions. DD2 was soo so sick that on the return journey we booked a helicopter transfer.

Came back from Barbados just over a week ago, and that's great too, but again we had about an hour transfer, which isn't great with dcs.

mauritius?

Ah Pesto, thank you! Will sell idea of Grenada to dh. Are the medical facilities ok there, just in case?

Mauritius a touch too far away, though tempting - we went there on honeymoon
