So it looks like some holidays could be back on. Will you still go?

We have a 2 week holiday booked in La Rochelle in August. Staying in an Airbnb. We didn't think that the French would let us is, but it looks like they will.

Obviously we need to wait and see if our accommodation is still available, i'm not 100% its not someone else's home for the majority of the year rather than a holiday home. So they may still cancel.

I think I still want to go. I don't feel like I need a break anymore, but I suppose I will by then.

Go, enjoy the change of scenery, the lovely food and the great weather.

notimagain · 05/05/2020 11:10

Hope it works out for you - you'll have to keep a close eye on how France "unlocks".

I guess you are aware that there is a bit more to the easing of confinement in France than the French simply letting some non-nationals people back in across the borders - "lockdown" is going to be undone slowly, regularly reviewed and on a departmental basis.

Any travel to/from your destination, and what you can do when you get there might be complicated by departmental travel restrictions/local facilities restrictions -all tied into the dreaded red, yellow and green zones which will change as the CV situation evolves over the coming months.

Good Luck.

notimagain · 06/05/2020 10:34

This provisional schedule on how the confinement may be unwound might be of use. All of course depends on there being no "second wave"

For example - Access to beaches forbidden until at least 2 June.

tillyteatowel · 06/05/2020 10:38

I’d love to but the lack of ability to get travel insurance worries me.

SJaneS48 · 06/05/2020 18:00

Ours is at the end of the month so is cancelled & we’re holding off rearranging. Truthfully, I’ve kind of written off going anywhere this year bar perhaps a short U.K. last minute break. It just looks like we (and the world) will be in and out of lockdowns for a while.

If I was you, I’d hold off making a decision till closer to the time (but probably write it off in my head so as manage the disappointment if it’s a no go or not advisable!)

underneaththeash · 07/05/2020 20:16

We're due to go at the end of August too...I don't think we'll have any idea if we're going or not until end of July

bingohandjob · 08/05/2020 13:36

We've got a few trips booked this year in August, October and December but I don't anticipate we will go on any of them. Possible second wave lockdown late summer then the winter flu season itself - and the thought of being quarantined on arrival or return puts me right off! I can't see myself, personally, planning any overseas trips until this time next year. I hope I'm wrong! Happy to be wrong!

KoalasandRabbit · 18/05/2020 01:49

Our holiday planned for August is to Asia but will cancel it even if allowed - too much risk of being quarantined / refused flights somewhere. I've already cancelled anything could cancel for free which wasn't that much. Wouldn't book anything else now until next year and that maybe UK if we can't get insurance cover for coronavirus. Just hoping we can get refunds on some the £4k we've got left exposed, most of which is EVA Air / Air Asia flights, only refunding / credit notes to end June currently.

DDs Italy school trip for 1 June we cancelled at deposit stage though might get that refunded. Pretty close call as allowed in from 3rd.

mummymeister · 18/05/2020 15:02

At the moment it does mean coming back to England and being in quarantine for a further 14 days. That turns 2 weeks leave into 4 weeks leave. If you have the leave entitlement then thats fine but dont expect the restrictions coming back to be lifted by then. they might even be tougher. Just so much uncertainty especially around travel insurance and getting stranded it just seems like way, way too much worry and hassle to me when you could easily holiday in this country (and help boost the economy in tourism areas too)

A1A1 · 18/05/2020 19:19

Our accommodation in Italy emailed today to say they would be open as measures are being lifted from 3 June.

Not sure whether we’ll go. We can afford to lose the deposit and they’ll let us rebook within a year for the same value of the deposit if we decide to postpone.

We’d be driving so no hoards at airports etc. though I don’t fancy getting caught up in an Italian hospital or wearing a face mask round the pool.

But it would be nice to get away... in the sun... with wine... and pizza... and pasta...

cazinge · 18/05/2020 19:27

It doesn't necessarily turn 2 weeks leave in to 4 weeks, if you can wfh and your company is agreeable to this. We are discussing this at the moment at work, if staff are still wfh / the office is not open then they can work while quarantining at home once they return from abroad. If they fall ill, then it would be sick leave.
(I appreciate not everyone can wfh and who knows when other companies will start opening up offices to "normal")

WhereAreWeNow · 21/05/2020 11:15

How would you be getting there OP? If you're getting the ferry/Eurotunnel and driving then maybe (taking into account all the issues around quarantine, confinement measures in France, how French people will greet tourists from the country worst affected by Covid in Europe!). But personally I would be really anxious about flying. I'm just trying to get a refund on our flights to Italy. I don't know if the flights will be up and running by then anyway but even if they are I just can't imagine getting on a plane right now. All that recycled air being pumped around a pressurised cabin with lots of people sitting in close proximity.

TheRegressive · 21/05/2020 11:17

Unfortunately I would not go anywhere atm. I will not be travelling again until there is a vaccine.

whataboutbob · 21/05/2020 18:17

I can’t wait to go to france again. I think I’d go.

Aragog · 21/05/2020 18:23

I'll go on holiday as soon as we can, with some degree of safety, and when I don't have to be in isolation for a fortnight after.

We are planning to book a week at October half term - low deposit and don't have to pay balance til 3 weeks before - this weekend. I'm really hoping we can go.

We don't have a summer break booked but if we can go somewhere we will do, even if it's in the uk for now.

iklboo · 21/05/2020 18:36

Yes. We're going to Somerset and it has everything we've been missing.

windmill26 · 22/05/2020 13:02

We have a holiday to Spain in mid August booked and paid for . If Spain doesn't require us to self isolate for 14 days we are going .

belfasteast · 01/06/2020 13:19

I'm hoping I can book a holiday for late August, anywhere with sun. I'm probably being wildly optimistic, but our June holiday was cancelled and the thought of a holiday is keeping me going.

itsgettingweird · 01/06/2020 13:39

I have holiday booked to Spanish island last week of august. I will go if we can and don't have to isolate on return.

Not quite sure it'll be the same as I'd usually expect in quiet AI hotel though!

PersonaNonGarter · 01/06/2020 13:40

Yes! We will definitely go. Cannot wait.

usernotfound0000 · 07/06/2020 07:59

We're still hoping to be able tonight go to Portugal in mid July.

Bagelsandbrie · 07/06/2020 08:02

I wouldn’t go. I think travelling in the current situation is quite depressing- half of everything shut, social distancing everywhere, masks etc. For me that isn’t what a holiday is about, but I guess we are all different. I’d rather wait until things are back to normal - even if that’s a couple of years or whatever.

WaffleCash · 07/06/2020 10:46

I’d love to but the lack of ability to get travel insurance worries me.

We have an annual policy that's still valid but I'm unclear as to what it would cover right now.

Our holidays tend to be fairly socially distanced by nature, i.e. walking in remote places and self catering so that side of it isn't an issue.

We can both wfh if we have to quarantine on return, but given that there are something like 2 cases in the destination we want to go to I'm not too concerned. More risk going to the supermarket here i imagine.

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 14/06/2020 22:44

I would totally go. Anyone can go to France from 15th June and the quarantine is optional (!). Campsites, hotels, cafes, restaurants are all open. Enjoy!!

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 15/06/2020 13:04

We have flights booked to Turkey in August. If we are allowed to fly we will be going. We have a house so we don't need to stay in a hotel and can keep ourselves to ourselves.

I have insurance that covers for Covid so that's not a problem.
