We have a 2 week holiday booked in La Rochelle in August. Staying in an Airbnb. We didn't think that the French would let us is, but it looks like they will.

Obviously we need to wait and see if our accommodation is still available, i'm not 100% its not someone else's home for the majority of the year rather than a holiday home. So they may still cancel.

I think I still want to go. I don't feel like I need a break anymore, but I suppose I will by then.

Our employer has told us that we cant return to work for 2 weeks if we go abroad, due to current quarantine rules. And we cant work from home in those 2 weeks either so its annual leave or unpaid leave so I wont be flying until that is resolved.

We are currently at our holiday home near Granville in France (we live in France) and it's all pretty much back to normal. Slightly fewer tables in the restaurants. Otherwise all seems good.

We've come with our horses and dogs and there really is no difference from June last year.

Our UK visitors are worried about being let back into the UK. Can anyone give me an official link to advice?

It is likely that whilst flights are reinstated that the FCO will still have a 'essential travel only' advice. Does this mean that people will be stopped in airports and be asked the reason for travel? I'm desperate to go anywhere at this stage.

Nope, very much doubt it..travel will be at your own risk..

Airline staff are only tend to ask questions if the destination country has entry restrictions and the airline might be responsible for repatriating you if you don't comply.

I see you've been given the link - in a nutshell they will be let back in to the UK but they should then quarantine for 14 days.

WaffleCash · 15/06/2020 16:24

@SooticaTheWitchesCat

I have insurance that covers for Covid so that's not a problem.

What insurance do you have? That seems to be the sticking point for us right now. Not bothered about cancellation insurance, just want to be covered when away

Wallywobbles · 15/06/2020 18:49

@nomorefencepostsplease thanks, but rather depressing that the UK is so far behind us. I suspect that all my UK guests will have to cancel- this is proving to be a horribly expensive year.

climbingcorfecastle · 15/06/2020 23:16

I'm finding it all very confusing, does anyone have an up to date link of countries that are allowing Brits in? I keep getting emails from Easyjet trying to convince me to book a holiday in Spain but I thought it was out of bounds for now? The same with Turkey?

LocalHobo · 15/06/2020 23:25

I’m hoping to get to a Greek Island in August.
Self employed from home, so I don’t have an issue with 14 days quarantine.

nomorefencepostsplease · 16/06/2020 08:44

@Wallywobbles

Yes, it is a ridiculous rule.

We would like to go and see MIL who is in her 90s and lives alone and cannot leave the house, but it is pretty pointless if we have to stay locked in her house for 14 days (and we would boil to death as it is heated to the approximate temperature of the sun!)

@climbingcorfecastle the advice from Spain is very unclear/conflicting at the moment re travellers from the UK. Hopefully it may be clarified soon.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 16/06/2020 13:36

@WaffleCash
We have insurance with Staysure

Yes

We have two weeks in an Airbnb gite in Brittany booked in August. Driving using Eurotunnel.

Needing to quarantine when we get back here is fine as we can both wfh.

Having just checked Eurotunnel site I'm feeling hopeful that we can get there, providing the host is happy to have us.

I'm assuming that if we wanted to cancel now we would lose our deposit (half the cost of the booking) as there's now nothing stopping us getting there?

Need to check insurance situation of course - as someone said upthread, just to be covered while we're there rather than for cancellations.

smogsville · 17/06/2020 10:40

A friend has just pointed out that FCO is still advising against all but essential intl travel.

Where does that leave us? Presumably insurance not valid.

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 17/06/2020 22:33

@smogsville You will be absolutely fine. All travellers, including from the U.K., can travel to France now (whereas a valid reason -, as family matters - was needed up until 15th June) and the quarantine is optional. Brittany Ferries are still not running, but as you’re taking the Eurotunnel you’ll be okay. Enjoy your holiday!

smogsville · 18/06/2020 13:50

@CrumpetsAndPuzzles thanks! How delightful to be able to go. The prospect will keep us going through the doom of work home schooling. There were good sounds from reports of the Macron visit today too.

B9008 · 18/06/2020 14:42

If the FCO advises against travel then your insurance won’t be valid. You have to wait for that to be lifted really.

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 18/06/2020 21:56

If you’re worried about health insurance, the EHIC card is still valid so all medical treatments in Europe, including hospital stays, will be covered.

WaffleCash · 19/06/2020 10:23

EHIC card only gives you the same treatment as a resident, so not necessarily free. It's also not going to cover repatriation, or extra expense if you get stuck in the country etc.

People should be clear about the risks they're taking if they're happy to go without insurance.

Does anyone have any up to date into on Turkey? All I can find are news reports stating that tourism has resumed, albeit in a smaller scale, but nothing official on any gov sites. I 'm dreaming about booking somewhere in Izmir in August, flying from Ireland. Would I even be allowed in?

The plan is that they will allow flights from the UK from 15th July, I think Ireland is actually earlier than that. We have flights booked to Bodrum on Augusta so I am hoping it will be fine to fly then.

This is the big sticking point at the moment.

We had a holiday to France booked - a week in a big campsite and a week in a cottage. We cancelled it a few weeks ago as the balance was due. They let us cancel the campsite apart from a small admin fee and we got a credit note for the ferry/cottage deposit.

However, we're currently thinking that a week in a cottage might be doable. We don't eat out really anyway and mainly do outdoorsy things when we're away. I'm a bit worried about the safety of ferries with so many people on board but will wait to see what measures they will take. It all depends on the FCO advice though as I wouldn't travel without any insurance.

EmmaStone · 21/06/2020 13:37

We've got flights booked to SW France in mid August, thinking its looking very hopeful now. We've also booked fully refundable tunnel tickets in case flying was a no go. The only accommodation we have booked is a villa for 1 week. Now we need to start making some decisions about whether we fly or drive. If we fly, we'll probably largely book self catered accommodation for the second week, if we drive, we'd need to use a series of hotels and eat out more. 2 of us favour driving, the other 2 flying.

Not sure what to do, presuming we can actually do either!!

ineedaholidaynow · 21/06/2020 13:45

Wonder what would happen if you end up in a local hotspot and there is a lockdown in that area, would travel insurance cover that?
