We have a 2 week holiday booked in La Rochelle in August. Staying in an Airbnb. We didn't think that the French would let us is, but it looks like they will.

Obviously we need to wait and see if our accommodation is still available, i'm not 100% its not someone else's home for the majority of the year rather than a holiday home. So they may still cancel.

I think I still want to go. I don't feel like I need a break anymore, but I suppose I will by then.

Yes, getting stuck there would be a concern! Would need to check that with insurance and travel providers.

Sousone · 21/06/2020 14:34

I know this is the short haul section but do people think South Africa might allow UK tourists in September?

Everything I read is conflicting.

Mirrorxx · 21/06/2020 14:37

I thought South Africa said no tourists in 2020.

Roselilly36 · 21/06/2020 14:39

No way would I consider travelling anywhere at the moment.

Sousone · 21/06/2020 14:41

I’ve read some articles that state SOuth Africa will reopen to international tourists in February 2021 but have recently read September 2020 is being pushed.

I’d given up hope but since reading the September 2020 articles I’ve noticed flights are now on sale from August onwards.

I have family there and would desperately love to see them this year but they have no more clues than I do about what’s happening.

DisobedientHamster · 21/06/2020 14:42

I'd be off like a shot. It's about 2 months away, too.

Shinebright72 · 21/06/2020 14:45

I agree about the travel insurance it’s seems strange that holidays are selling yet you can’t really get holiday insurance it shouldn’t be allowed.

ineedaholidaynow · 21/06/2020 14:48

I’m assuming people aren’t reading the small print on their insurance

Patch23042 · 21/06/2020 16:10

I want to go to Spain as planned. It seems kinda strange however, that foreign holidays via ‘plane could go ahead before we open UK pubs or football stadia. And what would the holiday look like? Long queues for meals, masks, allocated times in the pool....

I’m unconvinced. I’d like to be wrong though.

ineedaholidaynow · 21/06/2020 16:47

I wonder how test and trace or whatever the equivalent is, both abroad and in the UK will work. If you happen to be a contact for someone who tests positive and you need to self isolate what happens if you are in holiday accommodation, especially if the self isolation period goes beyond your holiday period

CushionsandCandles · 21/06/2020 16:50

We've got two weeks in Greece from July 4th.
Flights still not been cancelled and villa still booked.
No idea what to do.....
Waiting for some clarity this week but very slightly hopeful!

Wallywobbles · 22/06/2020 20:47

Greece is open. We live in France so slightly different but my kids are going on 4 July for a week with Club Med and only booked in the last month so I'm pretty sure it's happening.

Institutkarite · 22/06/2020 20:59

Portugal is open, our family are booked to come here in the middle of July, I'm really looking forward to seeing them. There's no quarantine on arrival. Restaurants, bars, beaches and shops are open

Wallywobbles · 23/06/2020 07:43

France pretty much all open here. Night clubs are now opening. Not sure how that'll work. Masks necessary on trains.

We are really appreciating going out to restaurants again.

smogsville · 23/06/2020 09:52

@Wallywobbles thanks for this update, is it true of the whole country as far as you know? Our holiday is in Brittany. Will it be advantageous for us to pretend not to be Brits or am I being paranoid?!

Wallywobbles · 23/06/2020 10:53

@smogsville - True for the whole country, and for as long as it remains green (we have a traffic light system here). Any tourist area will be delighted to have you.

IndiaMay · 23/06/2020 11:11

I'm hoping to book something last minute. No way I'm giving up holidays. Everyone on this thread saying they wont travel until theres a vaccine, what if there never is one?! Will you never travel again?

smogsville · 23/06/2020 11:27

@Wallywobbles thanks that's good to know. We come to France every summer and hoped we'd be welcomed. Just keeping everything crossed for the next six weeks.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 23/06/2020 11:36

We’ve rearranged Italy for next year. (Como in Lombardy) and are booking a cottage in Filey for this summer.

Buying a pile of M and S ready meals and nibbly bits to take with us

FizzyPink · 23/06/2020 12:08

For anyone looking at October half term, where do you go that is still hot? That’s probably the next time DP will be able to take time off work but I’d rather not bother with all the faff if it’s not going to be (virtually) guaranteed sunshine

BoysRule · 23/06/2020 12:11

Trailfinders have travel insurance that includes Covid related cancellations, hospital etc. It was £64 for a family of four to France for two weeks in August.

fuschia2000 · 23/06/2020 14:46

We made our August French Campsite booking before lockdown - do you think we'll be able to go? Would that be crazy? We have lockdown fever here!

Strumpetpumpet · 23/06/2020 20:47

We are supposed to be going to Portugal in August - booked with Jet2 and so far it looks as if it’s going ahead - they’ve taken the final payment from our credit card 🤷🏼‍♀️ I can’t imagine the Portuguese are too delighted at the prospect?!

MrsGrindah · 23/06/2020 20:53

I’m surprised how many people on this thread think it’s all going to be ok when you get there.. there’s a lot still to consider e..g will you be able to eat out as easily, do you want to queue outside supermarkets on your holiday, spaces around pools etc. As well as insurance, queues at airports etc.

We all have our own “ red lines” but I think we need to consider what the actual experience will be, not just whether you can get there and the hotel is still open etc.

Strumpetpumpet · 23/06/2020 21:04

That’s all true but the alternative is we stay home and lose the £4K we’ve paid 🤷🏼‍♀️
