Flight vouchers

We were due to fly to Portugal (from another European country, not UK) for a wedding this month, our flights got cancelled and the wedding has been rescheduled for October. I‘ve been sent vouchers for the total price of our flights, valid for one year. Now I‘m really unsure what to do. I‘m not too optimistic that we will be able to travel in October, but who knows. The flights we would want are currently a bit cheaper than what we already paid, but have gone up in price by about £100 in the past weeks. WWYD?

  1. book onto flights before the price goes up more and pay extra to change if the wedding gets postponed further
  1. hold onto vouchers because it’s very unlikely the wedding will go ahead this year.

Difficult to answer without knowing which airline you are with & which country you are in.

I thought that if they cancelled the flight, they had to refund cash, not give you vouchers? I'd push for that and keep your options open.

Under European law you are entitled to a cash refund. If you paid by credit card you can raise a section 75 claim with your card provider
