Cruise deposit refund

Have a cruise booked for July.
I know, I know, but due to my health it’s just about the only way I can travel. Small company so not much socialising and apart from meals we are quite antisocial.
Deposit paid on booking, balance due now.
Company says if balance not paid we are effectively cancelling but they will very kindly give us a voucher for the deposit which has to be used by the end of this year.
If we pay the balance and it doesn’t go then we will get a refund.
They are refunding cruises for April.
Do I just suck it up or is there any way to get the deposit refunded ?
Paid by credit card so is that possible.
Thanks a lot.

Do you not want to go anymore?

If you do, pay the balance and then if it's cancelled, you'll get a full refund.

Or are you having second thoughts about going?

Dm is waiting on a refund for a end of May cruise, July one not yet cancelled. They would prefer her to take credit on future cruise and are offering a discount. Think you will just have to pay and wait. Alternatively try your cc if you paid on it.

Thank you both.
I don’t think there is any possibility of going this year. Even if the FCO changes its advice I don’t think cruise ships will be accepted in any European ports.
And judging from the way the virus has spread on other cruise ships I don’t think it would be safe to go.
I did think about paying the balance but there is no guarantee that we’d get a refund. Possibly just a voucher which has to be used this year.
The insurance will cover us if we get Coronavirus but otherwise say we should claim from the company.
Will try the credit card.

No, you can't get a credit card refund unless the cruise is cancelled.

If I were you, I'd just transfer the cruise to a later sailing date and then decide, it may well be that you can transfer again if you're not happy.

We were in the same situation and decided to cancel our July cruise, I didn’t want the worry that it may be on and if have to go. How cancelled about 6 weeks ago.
I was also fit to go on a cruise next month but that got cancelled and I can either have a cash refund or 125% cruise credit.
