Places to stay at Alton Towers

Dp and I have been wanting to go to Alton Towers for over a year now, and we're determined to go next year when the park re-opens after the winter. We want to stay over for 2 nights, so we were wondering if it is worth staying in the actual hotel itself or to find a B&B or something near by? Has anyone stayed at the hotel before? Thanks. xxx

We haven't stayed in the hotel - I think my kids would get frustrated at not being able to use the fab pool AND spend time in the theme park at the same time.

If you want a budget option, this summer we stayed in the TravelLodge at the services on the M6; (and there's one that's nearer at Uttoxeter). As motorway services/travel lodges go, it's a very nice one - set back from the motorway in woodland, children's swingpark, and a big lake with a path round and water birds. About half an hour from Alton Towers from memory.
