My sister is planning on going to visit her sons grave on his birthday
Next week, it's just under one hours drive from them.
I'm concerned they will get stopped? She's adamant she's going and won't stop or get out of the car anywhere else on route,
just to his grave place flowers and return
Wondering what your advice or thoughts are please..
can they do this? Are cemeteries even open?

Some cemeteries have shut, apart from when a burial is happening.
I'm almost certain it would be classed as unnecessary travel if she was stopped, but equally can see why your sister wants to go - and I suspect she wont be deterred by "against government recommendations".

Firstly, find out if the cemetery is even open, that may stop her traveling.

I would try and find out if it's even open first, might be shut.

I think if she were stopped it might be 50-50 as to whether police allow it if she explains the circumstances but I don't think if she said they would fine her, think they would either allow it once or get her to return home. May depend on police force, if it's Derbyshire no chance. It could maybe count as her daily exercise and if she doesn't stop and stays 2 metres away from people I would let her go as a one-off if she feels very strongly.

I would be concerned how she is though and would be worried she maybe quite distressed atm unless she usually does this as a routine and would discourage it if her mental health is fragile or if she's high risk.

All cemeteries round here have closed, so your sister needs to check whether the one she is going to is actually open first.
