Gambia with 5 year old?

We were due to go with TUI to Akumal, Mexico in May, I'm 99% sure that isn't going to happen.

Looking at same or similar but for school holidays next year (he starts school this Sep) it is about £1000 more! Gambia however is a place I have wanted to visit and is more affordable.

However...with a 5 year old?

Any advice welcome.

Went there twenty years ago and doubt it’s changed that much. I wouldn’t.

Thanks guys, have since researched a bit more and the common consesus is definitely 'no'! Maybe when he is older.

If it's a Tui holiday I'm guessing an AI hotel compound? You'll have a nice holiday as far as it goes but you won't see much of The Gambia (and not sure you'd want to with a five year old, tbh)

I haven't been for around 13 years but went a number of times with a charity. Personally I wouldn't take my 5 year old there so I'm glad you've already made the same decision!

And you'll need to take anti malarials and have a yellow fever shot. I wouldn't.

Aside from the malarials/yellow fever jab, can I ask why the strength of feeling against The Gambia? Genuinely curious.

I wouldn't go there as I wouldn't feel safe. It would be a holiday within the hotel grounds.

@Hollie089 hello. Is there any reason you choose Gambia? I have never been there personally but I think it would be different to Mexico. Maybe try looking at Jamaica I’ve been there when my Son he was 18months old and we went to Dominican Republic when DC was 4 and it was paradise I would definitely recommend we stayed in Punta Cana at Grand Memories hotel.
