Duinrell - refusing refund and inflating prices!

I’ve booked direct with Duinrell for this spring. They are refusing refunds, and actually sent me an email saying they would be reopening 7 April so what was s the problem!!

Now I’ve read that customers are being charged almost double the price to change their bookings to the same period next year?

Really shocked by Duinrell.

Efteling are currently refusing too Sad. Makes me feel I don't want to go there even if we can afford to next year.

tootyfruitypickle · 03/04/2020 09:02

Yes same here , dc loved it when we went a few years back - but Duinrell’s comms has been quite offensive actually. People who booked through eurocamp have full refunds . Duinrell even tried to stay open but closed all facilities and refused to give everyone refunds. I’d worry now about shortcuts they might take with safety because customer care is quite plainly not their concern.

As the FCO still recommends again all but essential travel shouldn't your travel insurance cover your costs?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 04/04/2020 17:34

If their local lockdown is due to be over then and they can reopen they're able to provide the holiday you booked. In this case the reason you can't travel is FCO advice so you would need to claim on your insurance.

FaFoutis · 04/04/2020 17:35

Bugger! I have Efteling booked for May. When are you booked there MyHips?
I'm surprised Duinrell are opening in April, don't Netherlands have a lockdown?

tootyfruitypickle · 04/04/2020 19:34

Nope, I got my insurance in sept but it doesn’t cover fco warnings. I can try and claim on credit card. They won’t be open I’m sure but that makes no difference.

That's desperate. Duinrell was on my to do list of holidays but I'll be thinking twice now.

underneaththeash · 05/04/2020 23:35

They're shut until 10th May according to the website.

Apparently the rebooking prices are far far higher for the same dates /accommodation, although I’ve not heard back personally on this, have asked. I found it pretty bad that some people haven’t even got that as Duinrell remained open for a while but with waterpark and theme park closed (pre border closure ).

I have to say I’m very glad I booked through Eurocamp as they offered me a full refund or 120% credit - which I’ve taken as we want to go next year instead and Eurocamp haven’t released 2021 yet. Several parks in Netherlands are trying to remain open to avoid giving refunds but no facilities or attractions open -Duinrell aren’t the only ones.

Larr88 · 27/04/2020 13:03

Hi just wondering has anyone had any further information from duinrell? I have a holiday booked for June and if it doesn't go ahead I can't use the credit for next year as we will be unable to go. Are they not obliged to give a refund??

JEM13 · 09/05/2020 08:14

We were due to be there this week. They have only offered a credit note, but the exact same week next year is 200 Euro more expensive. If you haven't paid balance yet I would strongly advise against it. You won't get your money back. Insurance refusing to pay as credit note offered.

tootyfruitypickle · 09/05/2020 08:58

I checked with my credit card and they explained that as per t&c Duinrell could still take the balance (or the cancellation fee which is super high). This can happen even if you cancel card.
I’m going to try credit card sec 75 as they are definitely breaching the booking terms

JEM13 · 09/05/2020 09:23

I'm trying sec 75 too but so far not heard back.

tootyfruitypickle · 09/05/2020 09:53

I think credit cards are being a bit difficult. But all the advice has been to pay the balance.
Worst case scenario we get a more expensive holiday sometime in the future. I’m mainly worried also about flight prices too.
Fingers crossed as I think the terms of booking are quite clear

Worth checking the comments on their Facebook page. They are violating their own T&C's and have changed it retrospectively. We followed advice to pay balance and are now being forced to take a more expensive holiday - I wouldn't have minded a like for like swap at all, as I understand places have it tough and cash flow is tricky.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/05/2020 22:44

Duinrell is fully reopen from 16. My insurance doesn’t cover me (booked in nov !!. Can I still claim under sec 75 assuming flights cancelled does anyone know ?
