Renting car in europe without credit card !!!

Does anybody know of any car rental companies that rent cars without having a credit card ??? My mum is desperatly looking to rent a car in italy and can't find any companies that will do it without credit cards !!!

The company we use to rent from in Spain won't hire without a credit card either, think it's some sort of security thing.
