Virgin Flights- obtaining refund not voucher

ILOVEALLCAKES · 25/03/2020 06:11

As above really. We don’t want a voucher, we’d like our money refunded by literally impossible to get to talk to anyone.
Anyone else had success?

Was it paid with a credit card? I hope you get a refund. Richard Branson is a massive cunt and does not deserve your custom.

This says that you’re entitled to a full refund if your flight is cancelled www.businesstraveller.com/business-travel/2020/03/16/coronavirus-virgin-atlantic-to-ground-up-to-85-per-cent-of-fleet/

We are trying to do the same but at the moment they won't refund as the flight is still showing asgoing ahead. But it won't.

My ferry was cancelled and I keep emailing them asking for a refund and they reply saying happy to offer you a credit note and don't even acknowledge the refund request. Ryanair form doesn't seem to be going through and just keeps giving me an error message. Also ATOL have suspended refund rules for package deals. I think it's going to be unlikely to get anything back from anyone. My resort have contacted me to say basically don't call us we'll call you... I'm still waiting!

Easyjet are not issuing refunds either even for flights cancelled weeks ago.

We've just been offered a vouchers for flights and hotel from last minute.com. Decided to accept rather than hassle of arguing but it wasn't a great deal of money anyway, european mini break, and assume we'll have several options for using the vouchers at sometime.

Qantas as well. Trouble is we want to get home to the UK so a credit is no good as it means we can only fly with them, when they want us to!

I read the other day that ATOL are changing the refund situation for cancelled holidays to try and stop all the holiday companies going under in the short term. I think the proposal was that they will offer a credit note but if you do not use it in 2 years that you could get a refund, and if the company goes under before you get chance to use it, ATOL will cover the refund. You might be able to get a refund before then, if things go back to normal, but if everyone insisted on a cash refund now, there would be no airlines left.

We were due to fly with them at the end of next week, but they are asking only customers that fly on the next 72 hours to contact them as they are so very busy.

The facebook page for Virgin is full of people refused refunds.
I am really worried that they are only exchanging for holidays up to April and of course the prices have rocketed. So my holiday for 8.5k was looking like it would be 13k for an alternative time (when I don't particularly want to go). I can't write off that money.
My dh said contact the credit card but I paid in about three payments and not sure if that matters? Simon Calder did a piece on it last week I think.
I have waited 10 years for this holiday. I know it sounds so selfish right now when the world is in chaos, no idea if my job will hold out too. Just want a refund.
I think the government will bail out BA before Virgin.

@icelollycraving - Judging from the BBC news, Virgin are after a bailout. Worrying times.
I don’t think it’s selfish at to be disappointed about your holiday especially when you’ve invested so much money into it.
We should’ve been travelling to London today, staying over ready for flying tomorrow 😢
Our issue is we booked through Expedia rather than directly through Virgin. Will never do this ever again.
If Virgin do go bust, Natwest have said we might get our money back through them as thankfully paid on our credit card.

We managed to get refund approved 48 hours before we were due to fly on all 3 bookings we had although. This will take an estimated 90 days to arrive apparently. I fear Virgin will go bust before we receive our refund.

Try texting them 72 hours or less before you're due to fly on the following: 07481339184. You'll need to text your name and booking references

@ILOVEALLCAKES so sorry I didn’t reply.
How did you get in with your refund?

Following.

I have flights booked to USA at the end of June. I feel its unlikely that we'll be going but want a cash refund too.

@icelollycraving - we are still waiting for our refund however apparently it’s being processed. My husband spent around 5 hrs on the phone last week, made 16 phone calls bouncing between Virgin & Expedia. Expedia are an absolute nightmare, telling us we were only entitled to a voucher.

Deffo refund as prices will rocket so you are stuck with virgin and can't shop around.

Don't take vouchers or credit notes for anything. You have no idea if the business will be there in 6 months. You may then struggle to get it back through a credit card but not an expert on consumer law.

For little stuff..we have sent a mock voucher explaining what for but with a cheque or cash instead with a little explanation as to why so money vouchers sent for birthdays etc isn't lost.

@ILOVEALLCAKES I’m glad it looks like your refund is being processed, that’s good news. I haven’t heard anything yet from Virgin. I’m not expecting to hear back as we aren’t due to fly out for another 5 weeks.

@ILOVEALLCAKES did virgin advise how long it would take to process refund and receive?

@Ahardknocklife - it’s not Virgin issuing our refund, it’s Expedia sadly. They’ve told us it will take up to 12 weeks.

That is pretty much the same as Virgin. That is good you are getting a refund though, must take a weight off your mind.

Great news to hear Expedia are issuing refunds what appears to be immediately after receiving their refund from virgin.

We're getting a refund too, although when we asked they were only offering vouchers with dates up to 9 months (which were useless to us).

I would have taken the longer vouchers that they're now offering - up to 2 years. I think its great airline and I'd like to keep them in business.
