We are going to the in-laws in Malaysia for Christmas and we need to bring a car seat with us. The last time we went we took his usual car seat into the plane and strapped him into it in his seat, but he will be too big for that this time. We are also going to Australia, but I think I will hire a car and a car seat there because I understand the quality requirements are different there from here.
We need a seat that is: light-weight; back and base can be separated for easy packing; able to stand up to baggage handlers rough treatment; safe; the kind that you use the seatbelt over the front to hold the child in.
I did do a search to see if this had been asked before, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for and most of the models recommended seem to have been replaced by new ones anyway.
