Iceland trip still looks like it's on!

We booked months ago to go to Iceland at the end of March. I've been expecting flights to be cancelled and / or Iceland to shut its borders because of Covid-19. But no. Everything appears to be still on including reassuring messages from the Blue Lagoon.

Has anyone had their Iceland trip cancelled? Is anyone going??

Seriously?

I am very relieved that against a backdrop of the biggest threat to society in modern times, your holiday is still on. Thanks for coming in here to tell us. I’m hoping when I get back from work my company isn’t laying staff off, that my cancer patient dad is coping, and that I might finally be able to buy some rice in the supermarket. Come back and let us know how it was!

Why on earth are you still planning to travel when the advice is not to unless essential? A holiday is not essential.

whiteroseredrose · 17/03/2020 23:58

Seriously. I can't understand why it's not all cancelled.

Was the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice not clear? I assume you have been waiting for the airline etc to cancel, rather than cancelling yourself. I would contact your travel insurance firm and confirm you can claim for the cancellation.

Um you have read that all but essential travel out of the country has been stopped for 30 days right?

Hmm

Enjoy being indefinitely quarantined in one of the most expensive countries in the world.

Because the government were uncharacteristically clear when they said there will be no offers of help to repatriate you. However disruptive it is on your life

We were due to go to Iceland the first full week of April. Pricey and much worked for holiday to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.. On Sunday DH and I discussed ringing the travel agent to see if we could rearrange it for another time, maybe October half term. Although no FCO or similar advice about not flying to Iceland, we were concerned about getting there, but not getting back, or what if one of us got ill whilst we were away etc, as well as the responsibility of potentially being asymptomatic and travelling.

On Sunday afternoon we got a “please don’t call us, we’re very busy, we’ll call you when we get to you” email from the travel agent, then on Monday afternoon, they emailed to say they’d cancelled all departures booked for March and April and would be refunding when they got to us, but were dealing with people due to fly sooner, or already abroad.

Gutted, but relieved the decision has been made for us.

  • Although no FCO or similar advice about not flying to Iceland, at the time.

You obviously see what I was getting at bikerunski. I'm amazed that people are still permitted to go. I wish the decision had been for us too. It's the last holiday as a family for the foreseeable future and we're really sad.

What happened in the end OP?

I am booked to go mid October. I have no idea what will be happening by then.
