Accommodation in Antigua

I have found some cheap flights (£239 pp), & dp are going on holiday BY OURSELVES (thanks to my wonderful parents looking after ds) at the end of this month. I've been scouring the web but haven't come up with anywhere fantastic to stay (well, I have, but dp is objecting to 5 star all inclusive...). Has anyone got any suggestions? TIA.

We've got a time share in the St James Club and love it. It's not got the best beaches on the island though.

What did your DP have in mind then?

Caribbeanqueen · 05/10/2004 13:34

We also stayed at the St James Club earlier this year for a few days and thought it was good. Lots of kids there though so maybe not good if you want child-free.

Definitely don't recommend the Siboney Beach Club.

Soupdragon - I'm interested in your time-share at St James, how did you go about that (I don't know anything about that kind of thing)

hoxtonchick · 05/10/2004 19:28

Thanks you two. Don't necessarily want child free (though I think I'll be an emotional wreck about leaving ds). We've found a couple of hotels for $50-$70 a night which seems dirt-cheap. Just have to flex the credit card now.

Soupy, dp has some image of staying in a beach hut for the week. Strange. I've disuaded him...

We stayed in a 'beach' hut called a gingerbread cottage. Children over 12 allowed but there wern't any there when we were (pre DS). Virgin only guests and only 12 cottages. It was All inclusive and FANTASTIC. No disco, entertainment on 1 night a week, no TV's and by 11pm silence. Excellent food, great staff and the most superb pool and beach I have ever seen. It was called Cocos Hotel (Not Coco Bay). I have just checked the website and its still there.

It's now no children under 8.

hoxtonchick · 05/10/2004 21:17

Thank you oooogs. Looks gorgeous but a bit out of our price range!

Update. We've booked St James Club, £450 for both of us for the week on a room only basis, which I think is pretty reasonable. Can't wait to go now .
