I am going on a girl's weekend in Birmingham this weekend with 5 others (staying in a central hotel) and have no idea what we should get up to either during the day or at night.....any suggestions as none of know Birmingham particularly?? We are all well into our 30's and 3 of us are also pg at the moment so I would guess that clubbing until all hours would be out and strangely there will be a reduced emphasis on booze this time!

For civilised evening in Brum try Henry Wong's in St Pauls Square

For wild night - try Custard Factory

Mailbox is cool too.

Bull Ring for shopping day/or evening out

Brum is multi-cultural and you will find anything you want here.

anorak (then Janstar) had a weekend in B'ham a few months ago - her thread here - might be useful!

There is a few casinos. Also you must have a balti - get a taxi to the Stratfod rd for an authentic one. The Icon gallery is very cool - modern art and small and does good tapas. The Art gallery by Central library has lots of good pre-raphalite pictures. The sea life centre is hot and expensive/ You could go on a canal boat trip from near the ICC. Alot of the hotels do beauty packages for a day. Shopping in selfridges/mail box/bull ring. There are theatres, music and ballet - don't know what is on - try googling for the Hippodrome/Alex/Rep/Symphony Hall. Also several jazz clubs - depends what you want to do.

Thanks for the tips everyone - all very useful and have pointed me in several useful directions. I'll get googling now and plan an agenda!
