Flying to Mexico in 3 weeks - worried

BG2015 · 12/03/2020 19:36

Staying in Playa Del Carmen with TUI.

My DP is convinced we won't be going.

We're holding off buying currency until a week before. TUI are stating its business as usual. No refund unless flights are cancelled.

My sister is adamant she is still going too.

BG2015 · 12/03/2020 19:54

I desperately want to go. It's been booked for over a year.

It's getting home that slightly worries me.

We go to Cuba ( hopefully) in 3 weeks. Same situation, business as usual until we hear otherwise. I too am worried that we could be stranded . Can't cancel as we loose money (over 10k) so clearly not an option. I rang my Ins Company yesterday, if we do have to stay for any reason accommodation will be covered and obviously health cover. The only thing that they don't cover is food. They did say keep all receipts but speak to them ASAP.

fuzzyduck1 · 24/03/2020 12:42

I’d be very surprised if they will still let people fly from the uk by then.

Duchessofblandings · 24/03/2020 12:44

Hope you’re prepared to stay there I definitely if/when return flights are cancelled.

milveycrohn · 24/03/2020 12:46

I advise against it, in case you get trapped there.

userxx · 24/03/2020 12:48

I'd say 99.9% it will be cancelled.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 24/03/2020 12:49

Of course you won't be going. TUI have cancelled all holidays up to a certain date - haven't you had any comms from them?

slimecentury · 24/03/2020 13:02

Just don't

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/03/2020 13:04

I thought govt said yesterday for all British nationals to come home immediately? (Which implies that borders being closed is being considered?)

Qgardens · 24/03/2020 13:06

Look at the dates peeps

Dizzygirl00 · 24/03/2020 13:15

Wow 🤦‍♀️

DingleberryRose · 24/03/2020 13:17

There is no way in hell you’re going to be allowed to fly in 3 weeks!

My holiday is after that and has been cancelled.

userxx · 24/03/2020 13:18

@Qgardens Ahhhhhhh fair enough.

BG2015 · 24/03/2020 13:45

Folks this was posted on the 12th March.

Lot happened since then

Holiday was cancelled ages ago and refund on its way.

Chill! No one is going anywhere anytime soon.

dingit · 24/03/2020 13:57

I was going 7/4 (tui). A refund is starting to look doubtful. Apparently the government are passing legislation to allow them to give you vouchers for another holiday to keep the travel industry afloat.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 24/03/2020 15:20

So the text I got from TUI said that they were encouraging customers to rearrange, which I'm fine with. I don't want the travel industry to go under either so I will do all I can to help.

BG2015 · 24/03/2020 16:04

Unfortunately I can only go at Easter and Easter 2021 seems a bit too far away at the moment to think about rebooking. We're just hoping that our refund may happen as it was cancelled over a week ago. My partner hasn't got a job now.

We also have another holiday booked with TUI for August which will need the balance paying in May.

It's a nightmare.

OP posts:
chocolatesaltyballs22 · 24/03/2020 19:27

Ah ok, I can see why you'd want the refund then. I would hope they'll refund if you explain the circumstances.

userxx · 24/03/2020 19:58

@dingit Oh no, is that what they are doing. Not great is it.

BG2015 · 24/03/2020 21:18

If you can get through to speak to someone

45 minute wait

OP posts:
HisBetterHalf · 29/03/2020 18:19

Did they say they were refunding or give an option of rescheduling also?

blackberrysoup · 29/03/2020 18:24

I'd reschedule to next year, we've done that with our holiday so we're not losing any money. I wouldn't travel now - I was supposed to travel overseas last month and if I had I wouldn't have got back so would be away from DCs now, it's unthinkable.

dudsville · 29/03/2020 18:25

YOu can check online whether your airlines are offering vouchers, might be a better option than wondering if your flights will go ahead and whether you'll be stranded there. We have friends who've been stranded in a few places around the world, it's ok-ish when with family and hard when on "holiday" in hotels.

BG2015 · 29/03/2020 19:12

You can do either. They're hoping that people will re-schedule.

The trouble is the same holiday next year is £800 more
