I have booked for flights to California for August this year . I’ve just realised I didn’t do travel Insurance when I booked the flights
I’m very hopeful that the trip
will go ahead as planned but If I take out insurance now will it cover me if if I have to cancel due to corona or is it too late

Take it out asap.
I've changed my policy today because the last one didn't cover for potential quarantine or cancellation due to pandemic or foreign office advising against travel. The insurance company said I will be covered for everything I have paid out because I've taken out the policy before the trip has started.
I'm getting married abroad in june and have booked everything separately so I wanted to make sure I can get all the wedding costs back if I can't go.

A number of the cheaper policies now have riders that state that if the Foreign Office advise against travel to a destination then they won’t compensate. You really do need to check all the Terms very carefully and if you are not sure, call the insurer and ask them whether in x scenario you’ll be covered if you purchase.

Post office.
My annual policy doesn't cover for coronavirus so I've ended up taking out a new premier policy with extended disruption cover.
