Taking a car seat and pram chassis on the plane

I'm travelling from Sweden to the UK on saturday for the first time on my own with my 4 month old son. We have a Quinny Freestyle 3XL with a maxi-cosi car seat which fits onto the pram frame. I'd like to take the car seat and pram frame with me to the UK.

Does anyone know if I'll be allowed to take both up to the gate with me? I don't really want to check either in because a) I have no bags for them b) I don't want them to get mangled and c) my baby is bloody heavy to carry and I'd like to use the car seat/chassis to push him around in the airport!

I'm flying with SAS (Sweden to Heathrow) and the follwing day with BMI (Heathrow to Newcastle).

I know plenty of people take smaller umbrella fold pushchairs, but am not sure what happens with my quinny chassis - it's pretty big, even when folded up. I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who's experience of this....

No idea what their policy will be, but I would strongly advise you to insist on it. I've put car seats and pushchairs in the hold twice at Heathrow and lost them both times!
