Venice in 2 weeks

I have a trip to Venice booked in 2 weeks. It's a Wowcher deal, so didn't cost a fortune really, just the cost of the 2 vouchers. It's a 2 night weekend break, although we have a full 3 days in Venice.

What would you do, given the current situation in Italy? I'm not one for panicking too much, but I have a 5 year-old daughter (who isn't coming with me - she's staying with her dad), an a father with sever COPD (again, not coming with, but will be in contact with him when I return.

Apart from the coronavirus issue, I'm not even sure if any of the main tourist spots will be open, does anyone know?

What would you all advise?

Keep following the news. My friend was meant to go this weekend coming. They have cancelled basically because it will be a ghost town, and not through not any formal advice not to travel. Things might yet pick up again.

Lots of flights to Italy have been cancelled from several airlines. Decision may be taken out of your hands...

If it was me, I'd still go.

handbagsatdawn33 · 03/03/2020 12:43

I'd go, but stay clear of Father when you return.

I have a thread on Italy too op! I'm supposed to be going next week. We have all now decided not to go we are waiting for flights etc to be cancelled. I don't think it's worth the risk

We are off somewhere else in Europe in four weeks and it’s a place where those from a country infected have been told to stay away. I’m expecting our tour company to cancel due to this but not heard anything yet. Waiting game at the moment.

statistichecoronavirus.it/coronavirus-italia/ has stats - current seem to be 488 infected, 12 dead in Veneto region.

If you go I would self-isolate after for 2 weeks. Looks deserted on pictures.

CountFosco · 06/03/2020 19:35

Talk to your work, they might want you to self isolate when you get back. Find out if they will pay you while you are doing that, might make your decision easy for you.

You can’t. Venice is in lockdown until 2th of April

KoalasandRabbit · 08/03/2020 09:04

The FCO still thinks it's fine to visit Venice Hmm despite it being in lockdown until April and them acknowledging its now under lockdown. No way you'ld want to be going now but until FCO advice updates insurance may not pay out. Would imagine flights will be cancelled.

Watching with interest. We are due to go to Sicily in 3 weeks' time. I'm desperate to go and was only going to cancel if the Foreign Office said we couldn't. I'm thinking now though that with all the new restrictions imposed by the Italian government, it might be quite depressing... ie restaurants, markets and bars deserted...
I've been looking forward to this holiday for ages though, it's the only thing that's kept me going all winter!

Frenchfancy · 08/03/2020 10:03

Sicily is a long way from the quarantined areas.

Celeriacacaca · 08/03/2020 10:16

DS was due to go to Venice tomorrow. He's managed to get a refund on flights and Airbnb and is now going to another country. I can't believe FCO haven't changed advice yet as this affects so many holidaymakers.

KoalasandRabbit · 08/03/2020 19:09

FCO advice appears to have just been changed now for the new lockdown areas to avoid all but essential travel.
