Weekend break for 3 generations!
imamearcat · 21/02/2020 21:55
Me, my mum and 4yo daughter are thinking of going away for a long weekend.
We were thinking Barcelona but DH stressing about safety. We want culture but kid friendly, preferably warm in spring/early summer.
Any thoughts?

We lived 5 years in Barcelona, I still miss it dearly!
What are the safety issues your DH is worried about. Yes plenty of pickpockets but carry a cross body bag with a zip and you will be fine.

Also ? about Barcelona and safety. If this about pick pocketing tbh you’re as likely to get your bag nicked in London, as above as you’d do in most major cities just be careful not to leave belongings like phones on tables or your handbag next to your chair.
Barcelona would be a good choice, if would be warmer further south though so how about looking at Seville as well?

Love Barcelona! Great for kids, have been there many times with my children and have never felt unsafe.

I don't know what he's on about. Terrorism I think. I did say it's only like London in that respect but he said he wouldn't want us back
imamearcat · 22/02/2020 10:19
Sorry, wouldn't want us to go there either.
Do you think he's just being silly and just go to Barcelona?
SJaneS48 · 22/02/2020 11:24
Truthfully yes (and apologies, my DH can be also be a bit irrational!). I think there are the odd pro Catalan protests but I don’t think you are likely to encounter trouble!
Atalune · 22/02/2020 16:54
London is much much riskier than Barcelona.
I would go.
I wouldn’t go though if I was going to be on edge and nervous.
justaweeone · 22/02/2020 17:25
I would go to Malaga rather than Barcelona
It has a more family friendly vibe in my opinion
imamearcat · 22/02/2020 18:21
I won't be nervous. I'm not really a worrier myself although DH apparently is!! Thanks for the suggestions.
SilkCottonTree · 22/02/2020 18:26
If your husband is a nervous traveller then why not stay in the UK? We had a lovely multi-generational holiday in Padstow last year. Although if you live near Cornwall then this is probably not the best suggestion! :)
