Hi
I am a granny with grandchildren coming down from Scotland for Easter. Would be grateful for info on where I can hire two safe car seats locally?

Depends what age they are

Depends also where "local" is. We have no idea where you are.

@dementedpixie @crapette
Hi Thanks for replying.
I am local to Sevenoaks.
The boys are 3 and 4 years old.

How are they getting to you? Can you not borrow their own car seats?

FrannySwann · 20/02/2020 20:24

they are flying

This is really hard, it will depend on your car and on their parents preference for rear facing as well. Rear facing for both is far safer, if safety is your priority, but may be harder to find. Worth talking to their parents perhaps? I've flown with well-packed car seats for my 1 and 4 year old - airline carries them for free - so that is possible. Good luck and have a lovely time!

Would their parents pay for a couple to keep at your house?
We always visit my father by train, so I bought a Britax seat for DS that lives at his house.

Airlines will allow them to bring their own car seats for free in the hold. Just ask parents to wrap them up well for protection.

It depends what sort of journeys you are doing with them when they visit? If its just local out and about journeys (i.e 30 miles an hour roads to the local soft play ect) i would just purchase 2 halfords essential car seats. They will be brand new and you can ensure they havnt previously been involved in an accident.

If you are doing longer journeys, motorways ect then to be honest i wouldnt contemplate hiring a car seat that you know nothing about the history. They could be damaged ect.

I would ask mum/dad if its an option to send their own car seats and if not ask them how they feel about a halfords basic seat. May very well be the exact same safety level they already have?

These seats will last untill age 12. So can be chucked in the loft and used for many years to come

I dont think you will be able to hire anything for less than the link above.
We had carseats that lived in my parents garage when we used to fly to them - 2 seats in one box, double wrapped in bin liners. We got Britax seats on a deal from halfords, and they did 6 weeks every year for 4 years, and are now in full time use.

Thank you for all the advice. Halford seats in the cellar seem to be the way to go!
