Barcelona with DD 13

DH is working away over my birthday during the Easter holidays so I've decided to go with DD (13) to Barcelona for about 4/5 days at the end of March. Looking at Jet 2 and similar just for ease. For hotels, are there any good areas/areas to avoid? Ideally we'd like to be in a safe area within walking distance or easy access for transport to the main sights and eating places. Any top tips would be gratefully received.

I loved barcelona. especially things like the open top bus tour to help get your bearings. the only place I really, really hated was las ramblas. we were followed and stalked the whole time we walked around there and decided never to go back to that bit. the cathedral was amazing as well as the house and other arts/crafts type stuff. eating out was very easy too.
