First holiday with baby!

Hi all,

We have a baby who will be 10.5 months when we travel. This will be our first holiday with a baby on a plane.

I wondered whether anyone could reccomend somewhere we could go which is baby friendly - short haul or Long haul (for ease, probably short haul).

We like the idea of Rhodes - does anyone know where to go?

Ibiza - again, any idea on which location?

Crete!

Thanks in advance

We did Cala Bona / Cala Millor in Majorca, then Tenarife. Its easy just make sure you keep them out of the sun and cool, take any medication you might need

As above, the main issue is keeping them cool! I took my eldest DD to the Caribbean when she was 6 years old and it was less relaxing than I’d imagined as keeping her out of the sun & keeping her cool was hard work! Things have moved on though sun protection wise since then though and you will be fine - just pack the best buggy sun shade you can find, sun hats, loose light clothes to layer etc. I’d also recommend hiring an apartment with a baby rather than going the hotel room route - it’s good to have a separate sleeping space for DC so they can nap and you’re not creeping around in the dark! It helps to have a kitchen and fridge as well for food prep. Have a brilliant time - it’s all very do-able, just needs some extra thought and preparation!

We stayed at Porto Mare, Residence Apartments in Funchal, Maderia and that worked well for us as we got a big apartment but was linked to a hotel complex so had indoor outdoor pools on site and all meals were available there or you could self-cater or a mix of both. Think it was via Thomson - there's hotels there with similar names which are same place but hotel rooms. Not a sandy beach though but lots of pretty gardens to wander round. Think we hired a car for a few days. Was a while back as mine much older now but was a lovely holiday.

We also always found Italy very baby friendly.

We took DS to Mallorca at 10mths and it was absolutely perfect - short flight, air conditioning, warm shallow sea, lovely food, great little town for evening walks, it was gorgeous.

I absolutely love Greece but wouldn't have taken him as a baby, lack of good plumbing and air con plus a longer flight.

People have babies in all countries. Where would you like to go and what would you like to do when you get there? My top tips - apartment with separate bedroom so you can put them to bed. Kitchenette with fridge. Milton sterilising tablets if you have bottles, stuff a large tupperware container full of pants or something in your case. Light weight buggy and parasol. Babies are so portable at that age and the big thing with a pool or beach holiday is you have to take turns to watch them.

Thanks guys. We've gone completely against the grain and have booked long haul!! Thanks for advice and I will take all tips on board!!
