Things to do with kiddos just outside of London

We are buying a car tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone could suggest places to go IN THE CAR this weekend.
Don't want to travel too far (we are in Northwest London) because dd is starting school. Just want to go somewhere nice where travel restrictions have prevented us from going before.

Try Kew Gardens near Richmond if that's not too far - have a picnic!
