Does any one have experience of safari holidays in Tsavo and particularly West Tsavo?.
Would you recommend it. I am slightly worried about lack of sightings ...
Any thoughts much appreciated.

We saw everything except rhino there. It was the most amazing trip!

We had a really good safari there! You will love it!

If you don't see Rhino when on your safari there are plenty to be seen in the Nairobi National Park.

Ive been on plenty of Safari's but the memory that will never leave me is driving through the park a couple of years ago, turning a corner, and having to stop to let the most massive of rhino's cross the track.

It was feet away from me and my friend who lives in Nairobi and was at one time a Safari guide. She'd never experienced anything like it either.

I love Tsavo.
I've always had good sightings there.

We had a great time there and saw lots of animals.

@Nanamilly if there are now indeed plenty of rhino to be seen in Nairobi Game Park that is good news! My parents had an annual pass and we went once/twice a month when I was a kid and we only saw rhino there once (and lions 0). Rhino numbers are extremely worrying so if Nairobi Game Park has had success on this front to the point they are plentiful and visitors stand a great chance of seeing one, wonderful!

I haven’t been to Tsavo West for years! However I have fond memories of Mzima Springs. The best info on the park and where to stay can be found at Expert Africa. I would read their detailed info before you book anything. They recommend a lodge and a tented camp.

I have to say I would combine it with a traditional savannah park such as the Mara. This would give balance to your trip. However Tsavo is handy for the coast.

Yes we combined it with a beach stay. There was a separate rhino reserve we went to but the buggers were hiding. The lodges are out of this world.
