First family holiday

Me and my partner are starting to think about our first holiday as a family with our little boy. I’m currently on mat leave but will be returning in April. When I return we’ll be saving up for our holiday. We were thinking of combining first holiday with my 30th birthday in December. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to go between October - January suitable for ages 1-1 1/2. Any advice as well

I think it depends a bit what kind of holiday you want.

The time of year means it is cold and rainy in most of Europe. If you want snow you need to go to Scandinavia. Even southern Europe may have mild days but it won't be T-Shirt weather after November. Beginning of October may be good for Cyprus, Rhodes or Sicily though but you may have a chance of rain still. Pools may be cold though.

If you want guaranteed warm weather you need to look long haul. I personally hated the idea doing it with a toddler as I know that I suffer so bad from jet lag, I would be useless for my child for at least 2 days, unfair to everybody.

It also depends what kind of child you have. DD was happy to be taken to places, loved watching people and we could take her virtually everywhere. My friend's DCs needed only physical activities at toddler age, no way they could go to a museum or castle.

You could somewhere like a luxury family hotel with pool and playground but it still gives you a nicer feeling for a birthday than going to Center Parc.

Just been here £270 each for 3 nights 4 days all in, cool at night, beer garden weather in the day, we also drove to the mountains and went sledging, sand and snow in the same day.
