We usually camp in NW Europe but DH a significant birthday so we have a bit more to spend. Want to go away October half term but happy to take kids out of school for a few days before or after. Kids are 10 and 13. The older one doesn't like organised actvities but the opportunity to hang out with other kids would be nice. Historic towns for days out would be perfect. Very importantly we need to not be in the same room as the kids so an apartment or connecting rooms is a must.

union lido in Italy might suit? its near venice for day trips, but has a waterpark and activities/restaurants on site. the accommodation there is in the form of static mobile homes (they have air conditioning etc) but they have separate bedrooms so allow you privacy

We went to Cyprus last October half term and it was lovely. Saying that we went from th 25th onwards and it started to rain every now and then so not pure beach holiday weather.

Teneriffe may be worth looking into. Lots of southern Europe is not fully weatherproof anymore end of October.
