Sunny weekend break at the end of September?
AdaKirkby · 25/01/2020 12:42
Just looking for some recommendations. Grandma has kindly offered to look after DD for 3 nights and DP and I would like to go somewhere warm for 3 nights at the end of September.
Flights to Malaga are really cheap but we don’t want to go anywhere that’s too touristy. We’ve been to Granada and Seville before.
So, any suggestions of somewhere near Malaga for a bit of sun, culture, nice food and wine.
Or anywhere else? We aren’t set on Spain but we don’t have a big budget. About £300 for 3 nights.

We went to Palma in October for 3 nights - flights were cheap, weather was lovely and we got a fab Airbnb for not much money. It was lovely.
AdaKirkby · 25/01/2020 12:53
Thanks. We’ll have a look at Palma. I think there’s quite a lot to do there.
Other places that have been recommended are Sardinia and Bordeaux. Flights to Sardinia look pricy though.

We’ve been to Malaga city before - we spent a day there on the way back from a longer holiday. It is a very nice little city.

Alicante? Lovely city, but has the beach too. Can usually get cheap flights there.
Infamy · 26/01/2020 21:22
Can you get cheap flights to Ibiza? Portinatx in the north is lovely.

Keep trying for cheap flights to Sardinia. We got cheap ones from Standsted in half term and it is lovely.

If you've only had a day in Malaga, you're likely to be able to fill a long weekend there. Or somewhere like Alicante would also be good and both have beaches.
Mainland Spain is likely to be cheaper for eating out than Palma/Ibiza or Sardinia.
AdaKirkby · 27/01/2020 10:52
Thank you. Sardinia does look lovely, we’ll keep an eye out for flight sales.
Thanks for all the other suggestions too.

We went to Lisbon last year, it is lovely.
Bilbao is an idea though. Thank you.
AdaKirkby · 27/01/2020 13:58
Nerja near Malaga has also been recommended. Has anyone been?
Beebumble2 · 28/01/2020 12:45
I’d also suggest Malaga. I went there at the end of September last year foe 5 days, lovely weather not too touristy loads to do, look at.
In fact I’m going back this year to do the things I didn’t get around to.

What are your suggestions on what to in Malaga for 3 days?
When we went to Malaga last time, we went to the Picasso Museum, Cathedral, the Alcazaba, Food Market and had a wander round the old town.

How about Madrid? The weather will be gorgeous. Lovely food, Spanish atmosphere, the prado, retiro park, outdoor swimming pools.

@AdaKirkby wow you did a lot in a day!
Have you been to the harbour, Castillo de Gibralfaro, Antigua Casa de Guardia? Lots of other museums and arts galleries too.
You could get on the train and go to benalmadena and go on the cable car.
I like just wandering around and stopping for the odd drink and tapa!

Went to Madrid for 5 days, a few years ago. It was beautiful and so much to see and do.
