Looking at CRETE for our summer holiday. Family friendly resort... ideally all inc but with a harbour within walking distance?

Not sure if I'm asking the impossible but I really want my family to experience the Greek isles. I remember Crete being one of my faves pre children. However with 3 under 10 all inc suits us for cost and drinks in the day etc. Except I hate the evening monotonomy of the all inclusive evening and would prefer to have a town to wonder around and probably have our evening meal in.

I would also consider other Greek islands

You can fly into channia, small harbour, you can swim in.
Buses to loads of places,
The beach between the two wave bits nearby is crystal clear.

From what I've seen, AI resorts tend to be out of town.
So you need to think about bus services (resorts' own tend to stop early), or possibly car hire.

How about a villa? To me, self-catering means coffee/tea/booze whenever I want it - all meals are eaten out.

Grecotel Club Marine Palace and Suites is just a short walk from the centre of Panormos which is a fishing village with winding streets and traditional tavernas.

It will be hotter than the sun if you're going in summer. I would avoid going then.
