Renewing child passport
Kkmuppet · 12/01/2020 19:55
I am going on hols in just over 4 weeks. To renew a child’s passport is £49 for the three week service or over £120 for the one week which I’d rather not pay. BUT am I being silly not to just get it sorted pre Brexit?
Keepmewarm · 13/01/2020 16:11
I sent one yesterday and was told we are likely to get it back by the 20th.
WhatHaveIFound · 13/01/2020 16:12
I renewed DS's passport just before Christmas and standard service it was back within 10 days.
Quartz2208 · 13/01/2020 16:23
Given you are going away in 4 weeks I think you probably need to do the 1 week

Applying online is quick and easy. You can upload a photo there too

There's delays I was told today, I need mine back for the 3rd feb and I'm worried.
Prizepudding · 14/01/2020 18:30
We done one recently. We were told 3 weeks but a week after doing check and send at the post office, received a text from the passport office to say it would be with us 3 weeks later, making it after our travel date. Phoned the passport office who said if we hadn’t heard within a week, we could phone back and upgrade to fast track for £90, we received the passport 4 days after receiving the text so all in it took nearly 2 weeks. Remember children’s passports need countersigned which can be a faff so the sooner you get it in the better.
dementedpixie · 14/01/2020 18:32
You can do the countersigning bit online too. Ours took 10-12 days using the online service (did 3 renewals at once)
DragonNight · 16/01/2020 07:27
Renewals of a child passport do not require countersigning

Yes they do if the child is under 12
MrsPnut · 16/01/2020 22:25
Do it online, and it’s quicker. You can also take the photo against a plain light wall and upload it.
Counter signature will be done via email and I have always had them back within 10 days.

@okiedokieme did they say how long the delays are expected to be? I’m waiting on a couple of passports too 🙁
