Italy camping in June without car - any site recommendations?

We are thinking of going to Italy in early June - possibly late May - but am clueless as to where to start! We usually do Eurocamp in France but I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go to Italy because of the food...

Can anyone recommend a campsite (we will use site accommodation) that would suit us?

  • me, DH, DD (2.5)
  • can fly to any airport but don’t want to hire a car in Italy
  • ideally site is close enough to a town to walk to nice restaurants in the evening
  • toddler splash pools etc essential
  • dry weather but not scorching hot
  • great on-site restaurant/takeaways would be a bonus...

I like the look of Portofelice Village from my research so far but unsure how best to get there from airport

Garden Paradiso would meet a lot of your criteria. The ATVO bus service connects Venice Marco Polo and Treviso airports with Lido di Jesolo. Once in Lido di Jesolo change to the number 5 bus heading to Punta Sabbioni. The bus stops just outside the parc.

Thank you - haven’t looked at that one yet!

We always did eurocamp with a car. Last year we went to union lido in Venice . Great site beach and sea amazing. Lots of eating out choices. We had planned to hire a car and go and do a shop at a local supermarket but didn't bother. On site supermarket and seperate veg shop were really good and significantly cheaper than the big supermarket's in France. We booked with Bolero.

Thank you - what time of year did you go and what was the weather like?

Fly to Venice Marco Polo then direct bus to Marina di Venezia campsite - book through Venue Holidays as they have the best prices and nice mobile homes. I've been there twice now and it's brilliant - loads of different pools plus direct access to the beach - has its own supermarket, gelateria, places to eat plus right outside the campsite is a cheaper supermarket and restaurant/pizzeria. You can easily do a day trip to Venice if you fancy it.

I've done Union lido about 15 times. The last 10 times or so, we always flew and then just got a taxi to the site.

Once there, you don't need a car as can use public transport to go out and about or use one of the 18 odd bars and restaurants already on the site.

We've been there at the end of June- temps reached 39 degrees at times so I think you'd be ok!!

If you call Venue they are really helpful and will email you info about airport buses/site map etc

Thanks everyone - really helpful!

I think we will probably end up going mid/end of May now .. would Venice area be okay temp-wise?

Thanks for the Venue Hols tip - never come across them before and they look very reasonable compared to Eurocamp & Canvas

It's usually very warm and sunny in Venice at the end of May - mid May could be riskier and not sure if the pools will be open then.

Having said that we went last year at May half term (last week of the month), and it was unusually chilly and rainy! We still had a good time.

I've been to Union Lido too. We got a transfer from the airport. We never left the site for the whole week as there was loads to do and plenty of choices for food etc.
