Where to go close-ish to Lake Como (possibly Switzerland?) and help with travel please

We’re heading on a family holiday to Lake Como in August and have a week booked at a lovely place that we’ve stopped at before. However we’d like to extend the stay for a few days and are looking for recommendations of nice villages/towns within a reasonable distance (so we don’t lose too much time travelling) - any suggestions? I have considered just moving to another resort on the lake, or possibly going to Lake Maggiore (the Swiss end?) or elsewhere into Switzerland but not really sure where. Ideally somewhere really pretty Grin A friend suggested Lauterbrunnen but I’m wondering if that’s too far for 3 days or possibly a difficult journey through the mountains?

We’re travelling with my parents (reasonably fit) and children aged between 9 and 17 who are all fairly outdoorsy and don’t require huge amounts of entertainment.

Also, although we’ve been to Lake Como before, this is the first time we’ve travelled from the UK - can anyone help with the most convenient Milan airport to fly into to transfer to Como? Our local UK airport is probably Bristol but I don’t mind flying from somewhere else (Gatwick, Birmingham etc) if it’s easier, as long as it’s not too far away (eg Stansted!)

Thanks I’m advance Flowers

I’d be tempted to take the train. Como to Lugano is only 40 mins by train and it can be very busy at the boarder in holiday time.
SWISS Transport is so good that you can get to any little place by train.
Lugano is very pretty and not to big or busy
Bellinzona with it’s castles is only 1hr 10 on the train - no changes

We have been to parco San Marco on Italian side of lake Lugano a couple of times. Hotel is lovely. Surroundings are beautiful. Couple of nice restaurants 5 mins away, small town 20 min walk or 5 min drive and Lugano itself is 20 min drive away.
