Crete, Rhodes or Corfu in April?

We're considering a greek island in April. Crete, Rhodes and Corfu have holidays available for that period. I assume it won't be warm enough to sit on beach/swim in the pool.

Which would you recommend for plenty of places to visit, probably by bus. We enjoy museums, boat trips, scenery, walks, shops, general pottering as well as relaxing with a coffee or glass of something stronger as we go, so think we're fairly easy to please. It'll just be the two of us so no DC to consider.

I'd go for Crete as there's loads to see and do.

fikel · 04/01/2020 14:27

I would choose Rhodes

I’ve been to Crete several times and there’s loads of interesting things to visit. You may get lucky with warm daytime weather, but I’d expect the evening to be chilly.

No1HolidayPlanner · 04/01/2020 16:14

Definitely CreteSmile

I have been to Crete and it was lovely, would definitely go back there. Not been to Rhodes or Corfu but heard good things about them. Jane McDonald was in Corfu on her holiday programme last night and it looked really nice.

I’ve sat on a Greek beach on many sunny April days.
Crete is very very beautiful, stay at the Chania end, it’s gorgeous. So are the mountains and the dramatic beaches on the south coast.

Not Corfu, it's the nearest Greek island to us & it's much cooler than Rhodes. I went to Corfu last October it was ok but cool, my boyfriend was in Rhodes at the same time & it was at least 5 degrees warmer every day & didn't rain once but it rained 3 days in Corfu.

Rhodes. You could stay in Rhodes Town, which gives more options than a resort if the weather is bad. We went in early April one year and the weather was hot enough to sunbathe and eat lunch outdoors, but as soon as the sun went down at about 6pm the temperature cooled.

Thanks for your replies. We're edging towards Crete, but Rhodes still in the mix.

Can anyone recommend any towns, villages to stay? Thinking about it more, either somewhere by the sea or even inland if it has a traditional feel.

Annoying is Rhodes Town noisy at night with groups staying out late?

We had a May holiday in Corfu and it was lovely. We did loads of walking (it's not as mountainous as Crete) and caught the end of the Spring-flowering period (which is March/April). There were fewer people than normal but places were still open for business. The weather was lovely - not the usual Greek scorchio but very pleasant.

Do you know that their Easter (19th April) is a week later than ours (12th April).

senua · 07/01/2020 08:38

We weren't so keen on Rhodes Town when we went in high summer - it's a cruise ship drop-off pointSad

thesunwillout · 07/01/2020 08:46

Crete, Chania, Rethymno.

AdaColeman · 07/01/2020 09:10

Rethymnon in Crete is lovely.

AnnoyingSatsumaInMyStocking · 08/01/2020 06:14

It wasn’t busy in April.

TriangleBingoBongo · 08/01/2020 06:16

I’m the odd one out but found Crete quite boring!

Monty27 · 08/01/2020 06:18

I went to Corfu in June once. It wasn't massively warm and it rained. A lot. I had 53 mosquito bites on my legs. Many of which had blistered.
Can't comment on the other two.

Seahorseshoe · 08/01/2020 06:25

I love Lindos on Rhodes. Look it up, April would be a great time to go.

I've been to Crete many times too.

I love Greece. I love the people too.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 08/01/2020 06:50

Check if you are going over Greek Easter. It is a major celebration and lots of Greeks head to Corfu to celebrate so it is very busy- but amazing to witness.

Charley50 · 08/01/2020 08:16

I love Corfu, it's so green and lush and lovely pebble beaches. There is the Corfu trail going up and down the island which looks amazing to walk in May or early June.
Maybe in April it's too rainy though?
Crete for ruins and gorges and other amazing things.
Personally I didn't like Rhodes and didn't find the landscape or beaches inspiring. Lindos is pretty though.

Charley50 · 08/01/2020 08:18

Corfu Town is great too.

Notsure94 · 08/01/2020 08:24

Whichever one is farthest south! It might be cool or even rainy in April and I know you say you're not bothered but nicer weather can help make day trips more enjoyable. In terms of things to do there isn't much between them. I'd probably favour Rhodes and take a boat trip to Halki which is gorgeous.
