Packing cubes- anyone used them? Are they worth it?
heyjoeyitsestelle · 01/01/2020 20:53
Looking online- has anyone used them before? Do they make packing/ unpacking easier? family trip to Florida in a few months with 5 of us to pack for and it hurts my head thinking about it
VivaLeBeaver · 01/01/2020 20:58
I have some and like them. I can put stuff for immediate arrival in one cube, so swim stuff, shorts, t shirt, flip flops. Normally have one for electrical type stuff like chargers and plugs, a small one for travel documents and passports in my hand luggage.
SeaToSki · 01/01/2020 20:59
I have a different colour for each family member, so they all go in a big bag and when we get there each person can easily grab their stuff. It also helps them stay organized when we are there and sharing rooms.

Can’t live without packing cubes for travelling now - so useful! Great for just taking straight out of the cases and putting into drawers at the hotel. I have about 5 sets and use them for everything. Also v useful for when the kids go on school trips/camps - keeps all their clothes neat and organised.
FreeButtonBee · 01/01/2020 21:09
I love my packing cubes! Makes it so much easier to pack and also to organise stuff. So all swimming stuff together. All kids pjs pants and socks together. And DH and I know that for a two suitcase trip we each get one big cube and one small cube. For a one suitcase trip, one medium cube. Also if you want to check something is packed you can just lift out that cube and check it without destroying the whole case.
I have 2 sets in different colours from amazon. Nothing very exciting, but a see through/mesh side is v useful as you can see what is in the cube without having tonopen.
KittenVsXmastree · 01/01/2020 21:09
I like compression ones. Make a big difference to how much I can get in.
Bubbinsmakesthree · 01/01/2020 21:10
Yes definitely find them useful - I have different designs for everyone in the family and then try to pack thematically (underwear, outdoor gear, nightwear etc) to make finding things easy. We often do multi-destination trips so being able to quickly find what you need without unpacking everything is a huge bonus. If I was just going to one place for a fortnight I wouldn’t find them quite as essential, but they still help with packing and organisation.

I bought them for a tour where we were constantly moving, they are wonderful. Rolled clothes can stay crease-free until they are needed.
I now use them for even the simplest holiday - don't know how I managed without them.
Amazon have some good deals.
Aragog · 02/01/2020 19:35
We use them all the time. I just got cheapish ones from Amazon, different pattern for each of us.
They mean the packing is more compact and more organised. Nothing gets screwed up, I just choose the best size for the different items. I've learnt how to fold better too!
They are especially useful when flying hand luggage only too.
Snuffkindle · 06/01/2020 08:24
I used them when we went on a three centre holiday to America. I had one for each place and one for shoes and one for swim wear. It was so neat and easy. I found it very easy for my stuff - little dresses and tops. I didn't use them for husband and kids as they didn't have specific clothes for each place, and also find that their stuff is more bulky, so might not have rolled so easily. It was my first foray into them, so I might get more into it.
bellinisurge · 06/01/2020 08:30
I can see the attraction of them. I'm old and was taught how to pack by my much travelled Dad. I have some and just found I was doing my packing in spaces dictated by the cubes. Didn't seem as flexible. I probably need to give them another go.
Roselilly36 · 06/01/2020 08:33
I used them for the first time, I found them really useful and would recommend, we just put the cubes directly into the drawers, much easier and the case stayed tidy.
Ohthepressure · 06/01/2020 08:51
Can anyone recommend particular cubes? There are a lot of options on Amazon and it would be good not to waste money on ones which don't work, especially as PPs are so pro them!
Rowdythree · 06/01/2020 08:58
Following with interest, we have a 3 week Asia trip as a family of 5 coming up! Packing is on my mind a lot at the moment
Iusedtobeskinny · 06/01/2020 09:03
I am evangelical about them, use them for long haul and short. We have a different colour for everyone and I think they are ruddy marvellous. I will try and find a link for the ones I bought.

Foghead · 06/01/2020 09:10
Definitely! I pack each persons underwear and socks in their own packing cube and the kids get their own one for shorts and t shirts too.
So much easier.
Clymene · 06/01/2020 09:12
They're brilliant, particularly if you're travelling between places.
chatwoo · 06/01/2020 10:30
Yes I use them. Didn't used to see the point but they are really helpful, particularly for multi location trips.
I have the largest size for jeans, shorts etc, then a smaller one for tee-shirts etc, and an even smaller one for undies. Just unzip one side, pull out the top item, easy!
Mine are just standard zip around versions from Kathmandu sale.
seven201 · 06/01/2020 13:54
I bought some after seeing a thread on here. I wish I hadn't bought them.
bubblesforlife · 06/01/2020 13:59
Game changer!!!!!! Best Buy ever! Don’t hesitate!
Shorts/trousers in 1
Dresses in 1
Bras in 1
Underwear in little cube
Etc!!
They keep me very organised.
Rowdythree · 06/01/2020 18:10
I just ordered some from Groupon, no great loss if they're not great but hopefully it will make my multi destination trip easier
Panicovereveryone · 06/01/2020 19:31
We did 9 stops and they saved so much hassle. Themed packing: swimmers, cold thermals, jackets, tops & trousers, undies.
