Am driving from Calais to Amsterdam with 8 month old. Want to spend a day in France somewhere nice and interesting.

Advice on accommodation would also be helpful.

Cheers

Hi
I'm half an hour from Calais. What kind of accomodation are you looking for? When are you travelling?

Othersideofthechannel · 25/08/2007 21:11

What's more important...interesting for you? Or for baby?

piglips · 26/08/2007 08:28

Hi yah,

My baby is only 8 months so the sightseeing will be more for us. Somewhere with a bit of scenery and a bit of shopping also. Would like accommodation to be relatively basic just somewhere to sleep. Baby is 1/2 bf and ff.

Cheers

Just off out to the beach so will think about this while building sandcastles and write later.

Le Touquet would be one option. And Boulogne is actually quite nice.

But they're in the opposite direction.....
Bergues and Cassel are in the right direction. You can do a walk around the city walls in Bergues and Cassel is on top of one the few hills in Flanders so if the weather is good you can get a good view. But they're not much good for shopping.

You'd probably have to do that in Calais before heading north.

la touquet is really lovely

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 26/08/2007 14:58

Sant Omer ?

They have a great market on a Saturday.

Othersideofthechannel · 26/08/2007 15:40

Yes, St Omer is my nearest town and has some good shops and more atmosphere than Calais. The glass factory shop in Arques has a massive choice of tableware if you are into that sort of thing.

Oops... had missed the "to Amsterdam" bit

Thanks so much for the suggestions - now we'll start looking at acommodation.
I'm so excited about the trip!!
