Anyone been to or planning to go to South Africa with a child?

I am a LP with a child with a different surname. Went to South Africa a few years ago and associated administration was a nightmare - not only had to take a long birth certificate, but also a parental consent affidavit/copy of his dad's passport authenticated by a public notary. All doable but complete logistical pain.

Anyway (!) we're going again in April (yay!) and it looks like the rules were changed last November and all that is now needed for a non-South African born child is a passport. I am sadly excited about this but I'm still a little wary. I will, of course, check with reliable sources but is anyone going/been since Nov 11th (I think) and can put my mind at ease as to whether we still need to go through the palaver to take a child to SA..?

Have a read of the Foreign Office's travel website on South Africa. It gives up to date information on entry requirements.

website is this one:-www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

I have been to SA 5x with young children with British passports. 3x alone. Never had to get any additional docs?
