Affordable wellness/hiking holiday?

Single parent in desperate need of some R&R here, I’m looking at booking a trip next year just for me grin

What I’d really like is somewhere low key and relaxed, like a small family run hotel, with a pool, yoga, some walking, cycling, healthyish food, nice scenery etc. Somewhere where I can either hang out with other likeminded travellers in the evening, or just go for a stroll or read a book. Not a big glitzy spa hotel or regimented health farm! Don’t mind where really but thinking Spain, Portugal, maybe Turkey.

Do these places exist?!

Have posted in chat too - hoping for some inspiration Smile

budget?
Would you consider an organised walking hol?

ginandbearit71 · 14/12/2019 21:45

Yes, absolutely. Would prefer to go in a group as otherwise it can get a bit lonely in the evenings

Budget - no more than £1k for a week including flights. Hopefully doable if I book flights soonish

Look at Exodus OP. I am doing a walking week on my own next summer, lone parent - thought I would go when DD is away for a week.

Not sure on companies, hotels, prices... But the area between Carcassonne and the Pyrenees is beautiful: Cathar castles, mountains, stunning countryside, great rivers for rafting/kayaking, horse riding, eagles, history, wine, cheese.....

Carcassonne has an airport with cheap flights to/from UK.

Another vote for Exodus! They do European & also further abroad hols.

I'd like to do Morocco with them.

ginandbearit71 · 14/12/2019 23:37

Thanks everyone. I will check out Exodus - I would like to do a walking holiday. And Carcassonne sounds worth exploring.

Initial research seems to throw up lots of yoga holidays (I’m not really a full on yoga person but wouldn’t mind if it was geared to beginners, and if there were other activities as well). Either that or loads of high end luxury spa stuff which isn’t really my bag either. A definite gap in the market for a mid range, decent hotel option somewhere beautiful that does a mix of activities for single /female travellers!

There is an Intrepid Travel walking week in Andalusia which sounds right up your alley ... staying at a place with a pool and with some time to yourself as well as good walks.

I went here
www.lacrisalidaretreats.com/
It was amazing . You can do as much or as little as you need. The town is a very close walk away .
I would go back in a heartbeat . It totally relaxed me and I met some wonderful people who will be lifelong friends

Madiera has lovely levada walks and warm for Dec.
Luxembourg has the Mullerthall Trail, great for ho5king

ginandbearit71 · 15/12/2019 13:00

Oh yes, La Crisalida does look lovely Skinky. Thanks for the tip. They keep the price pretty well hidden until the end don’t they! I was bracing myself but it’s not too bad with everything included.

I’ve never thought about either Luxembourg or Madeira, Which1 - I will investigate. I’ve got friends who’ve been to Madeira and they loved it.

I’ve also come across this place in Spain www.yogabreaks.org.uk/holidays/yoga_holiday_couples/ if anyone’s interested
*not sure why the link says couples as it seems to be talking about single travellers

I'm trying a HF walking holiday next year, which seems to be also recommended for solos.

ContinuityError · 27/12/2019 05:09

Have you thought about walking the Camino in northern Spain?

WatchingTheMoon · 27/12/2019 05:13

The meetup app often has groups that do walking tours in Europe.

WildCherryBlossom · 27/12/2019 09:37

Have a look at La Gomera in the Canary Islands. Beautiful volcanic island, UNESCO world heritage site, low key, healthy (.tropical fruit grown all over the island ) and popular with walkers.
