Anyone been to Madeira in December?

Thinking about Madeira as an alternative to Canaries over Xmas....anyone been in December? Realise the weather might be more damp than Canaries but like the sound of Madeira.

I went a few years ago, in the run up to Christmas. The weather was quite mixed, and sometimes we had heavy rain but it was generally mild. Lots of Christmas decorations and nativity scenes and there seems to be a tradition of fireworks as a sort of countdown to Christmas. I thought it was lovely.

We've been in December, 10 years ago though now. Was a nice time to visit as lots of Christmas lights etc everywhere, weather was fairly mild. We stayed at hotel with indoor pool which was good as could swim if it was rainy. Nice gardens there to visit.
