Going to Barcelona in April with DH and 2 boys. Want somewhere central but not sure what area to start looking in?

Very easy to get around on foot/by metro/Uber

Thanks, that was roughly the area I was thinking of, looks really nice.

Eixample is the 'best' central area, for easy access, but not on Las Ramblas

I’d not do Exiample. Way too much traffic and it’s on a grid so you end up stopping every two minutes to wait for four lanes of traffic to stop. It’s just big shops and roads. No fun for kids.
Go to the Gotic side of Ramblas as far down as you can. You’ll be able to walk around, get to the beach and it’s a bit more interesting with narrow lanes and squares.
