Syros, Greece or other islands within easy reach of Athens

I'm planning a child free trip for DP and I in June.

I'm thinking Syros may fit the bill...has anyone been or have any other island suggestions? Our requirements are;

• No more than a 2 hour ferry from Athens (any port).

• The ability to cycle to beaches rather than hire a car.

• Natural beauty with typically greek villages.

• Little or no brits.

And the accommodation can be very basic.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I can't comment on places near Athens, but take a looks at Vassilikos on Zakynthos and Finikounda (or any of the near by villages) in the Peloponnese.

Hydra is lovely, about 2 hours by ferry from Athens and it's carefree.

Andros is not too far from Athens and is really lovely
