Ile de Re - or somewhere else on the west coast?

Is Ile de Re worth it? Sounds idyllic, but is it better than other places along the coast?

Years ago I spent some time around Lacanau and Arcachon but it was off season, so hard to judge what it might be like really.

We'd be going at the end of June.

All suggestions gratefully received

Il de Ré is lovely if you want to do nothing but go to the beach and Potter around on bikes.
Alternatives could be la tranche sur mer, les sables d'olonne or if you want a gite with a pool head inland towards Fontenay le Comte.

I can't do a link but posted in the last month about alternatives to La Rochelle and got some great advice. Will be straight to Ile de Re as soon as the children can ride bikes though...
